Levan Rogava (born 1981, Tsalenjikha, Georgia) is a Georgian martial artist, 5th dan black belt in Goju-Ryu Karate, and the chief instructor of the International Okinawan Gōjū-ryū Karate-dō Federation (IOGKF) in Georgia. He is a two-time world champion and winner of various international tournaments.
Biography
[edit]Levan Rogava was born in 1981 in the city of Tsalenjikha. He became interested in Goju-Ryu Karate at an early age and began practicing actively in the 1990s, which later became his professional path.
Career
[edit]Since 1998, Rogava has achieved numerous successes in international competitions:
1998 — Gold medal at the World Championship (USA)
1998 — Silver medal at the Florida Open Championship
2000 — Double silver medalist at the Chojun Miyagi Festival in Toronto
2002 — Gold medal in Canada
2004 — World Champion in full-contact karate (Turkey)
Public Activity
[edit]In 2012, he founded a martial arts center on Kavtaradze Street in Tbilisi, which has since trained many champions. The center remains active as of 2025.
Goju-Ryu Academy
[edit]Since 2023, Rogava has been constructing a sports complex — the Goju-Ryu Academy — near Lisi Lake in Tbilisi. (As of 2025). The academy's mission is to promote a healthy lifestyle and to preserve and pass on the ancient martial art of Goju-Ryu Karate to future generations.
