Mame is a song written and composed by Jerry Herman, it premiered 1966 in the Broadway musical Mame. It has had many cover versions and was a hit for multiple artists.[1][2]
Cover Versions
[edit]- The first live performance was on March 27, 1966, by Charles Braswell and All[3]
- Bobby Darin's cover of Mame debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 on the 30th of April, 1966. It reached #53 and peaked at #3 on the AC chart.[4]
- Another successful cover version of the song Mame is Louis Armstrong's cover of it in May of 1966. It reached #81 on the Billboard Hot 100 and stayed there for 4 weeks, and reached #7 on the AC chart.[5]
- The most successful cover version is the Herb Alpert and the Tijuana Brass' cover. It reached #19 on the Hot 100 in November of 1966 and #2 on the AC chart.[6]
- Jimmy Durante's version appeared on his album One of Those Songs.
- Eddie Fisher covered the song too, Fisher's version appeared on his album People Like You and as the B-side of his hit song Games That Lovers Play.
- Many other singers and bands have performed and recorded this song in all decades after (except the 2020s).
