Marko Leandro (born Marcos Esborronda) is a Spanish DJ, music producer, and live performer known for his genre-blending electronic sound. His music combines elements of Afro House, House, Melodic Techno, Tech House, Breakbeat, Trance, Progressive House and flamenco influences. Originally from Cádiz, Spain, and currently based in San Diego, California, Leandro has achieved international recognition for both his productions and live performances.[1][2]
Early life and background
[edit]Leandro was born in Cádiz, Andalusia, Spain. He was introduced to music at an early age, influenced heavily by his father, a professional flamenco singer. This background informed his rhythmic sensibility and use of traditional Spanish elements in his music. He began DJing in 1999, with early sets focusing on breakbeat and nu-skool, which were prevalent in the underground scenes of Southern Spain and the UK.[1]
Career
[edit]After moving to San Diego in 2014, Leandro developed a distinct sound that blends house, techno, and Afro-Latin percussion. His style—referred to as “Cadencia Leandro”—is characterized by the fusion of electronic beats with traditional instrumentation and live performance techniques such as real-time sampling and percussion.
He has released music on various international labels, including Cafe De Anatolia, LoudKult, YHV Records, Blanco y Negro, EXX Muzik and Dolma Records. Notably, his 2024 release Gea Shango with Café De Anatolia was praised for its fusion of Afro House rhythms and melodic techno atmospheres.[3][4][5]
Leandro has also participated in major events such as Miami Music Week and performed at prominent venues including Ministry of Sound in London.[6][7][2]
Musical style and influence
[edit]Leandro blends electronic music with flamenco, African-inspired rhythms and modern house and techno sounds. His performances often incorporate live elements, creating a dynamic and immersive experience. He has cited his upbringing and flamenco background as continuous influences in both studio work and live shows.[1]
