He is the founder of Edmonds International, a firm focused on mixed-use developments and resort projects. Edmonds has designed 60 million square feet[1] of architecture and interiors across North America, Latin America, and Asia[2].

He founded Edmonds International in 1998 with offices in Vancouver and Mexico City. Some of his notable projects include The St. Regis Kanai Resort[3], Reflection Villa.[4], The Riviera Maya EDITION[5], and Park Plaza[6].

Early life

[edit]

Michael Edmonds was born on September 5, 1965, in Orange County, California. He was one of four children of Eugene Edmonds and Mary-Anne Bauer. Edmonds was an avid athlete during his high school years at Servite High School, graduating in 1984.

While in high school, Edmonds worked as a freelance architectural renderer to support his future college education. He later got a full-ride scholarship sponsored by Toyota to study environmental design at Art Centre College of Design. He extended his studies by an additional year to focus on computer system design and graduated with honors.

Career

[edit]

After his studies his first full time job was in downtown Los Angeles designing large mixed use developments for the Asian Pacific Market which later morphed into interior design for Hollywood celebrities. After graduating he lived in Marina Del Rey for two years honing his skills in residential and mixed use design. He then moved to Mexico City in 1993 where he learned Spanish and started working. In 1995, Edmonds relocated to Hong Kong to work on mixed-use development projects throughout Asia for a year[7].

Upon his return to Mexico City he founded Edmonds International in 1998 starting with projects in Mexico and then expanded into Philippines, United Kingdom, United States[8][9], and Canada[10]. As of 2025, Edmonds International focuses on residences, mix-use[11] and hospitality[12] projects globally such as EDITION[13], St. Regis, and W hotels.
