Norriego Point is a peninsula and public beach access area located at the eastern tip of Holiday Isle in Destin, Florida. Situated between Destin Harbor and East Pass, which connects Choctawhatchee Bay to the Gulf of Mexico, Norriego Point is renowned for its white sand beaches, calm waters, and panoramic views. The area serves as a popular destination for swimming, snorkeling, paddleboarding, and wildlife observation.[1]
History
[edit]Norriego Point was originally named Noriega Point after Don José Noriega, a Spanish nobleman and early landowner in the region. Over time, the name evolved due to cartographic errors, resulting in the current spelling. Don José Noriega served as the first Alcalde (mayor) of Pensacola from 1820 to 1821 and was a member of the Florida Territorial Council. He also owned a brickyard in Escambia Bay and was a prominent figure in early 19th-century Florida politics.[2][3][4][5]
