Paulo Andrez (born October 1969) is a Portuguese entrepreneur, angel investor, and author. He is known for his work in startup investment and entrepreneurial risk mitigation. Andrez has held various roles in European startup and investment networks, including President (2012-2014) and President Emeritus (since 2015) of the European Business Angels Network (EBAN)[1]. He is a member of the advisory board of the Europe Startup Nations Alliance (ESNA) for the 2025-2026 mandate.[2]
In 2024, Andrez became the first Portuguese author to publish with Forbes Books, releasing Zero Risk Startup, a guide to mitigating risk in entrepreneurship. [3][4]
Early life and education
[edit]Andrez was born in Lisbon, Portugal. He began studying Computer Engineering at Nova University at the age of 18 while launching his first businesses. During this period, he founded an export company, a computer training venture, and a human resources company focused on IT services for the financial sector.[5]
He later completed an MBA at Nova University in financial management and a postgraduate degree in ecotourism and real estate management. [4]
Career

[edit]In 2000, Andrez was a key shareholder in the initial public offering of Novabase, a Portuguese IT firm listed on Euronext Lisbon. After leaving the company in 2006, he shifted his focus to startup investment.[6] In 2007, he co-founded DNA Cascais, a public–private initiative supported by the Cascais City Council aimed at promoting local entrepreneurship.[5][7]
As a business angel, Andrez has invested in multiple ventures, including United Resins, which generated €24.5 million in revenue in its first year. This investment was recognized by EBAN as the “Best European Angel Investment” in 2012.[5][7] He has also invested in Sword Health, a digital health company that achieved unicorn status in 2022. Publications
[edit]Andrez authored Zero Risk Startup, published by Forbes Books in May 2024. The book introduces a methodology for reducing entrepreneurial risk, particularly in the startup phase. It has been published in Portugal[11] and India[12], and reached top positions in Amazon category rankings. Several media outlets have described it as a bestseller.[3][7][13] It is also the first Forbes Books publication authored by a Portuguese national. [7][14]
Public speaking
[edit]He frequently speaks at conferences and entrepreneurial events internationally, discussing topics such as startup strategy and risk mitigation.[15][9]
