The Philadelphia Medal The Philadelphia Medal is the highest honor bestowed by The Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame.
Created in 2004 and first presented to Ed Snider as a member of the 2005 Inductee Class the Philadelphia Medal recognizes individuals whose contributions transcend day-to-day sports.
2005 Inductee Class
The Philadelphia Sports Hall of Fame's 2004 Charter Class represents the greatest collection of sports figures ever. The following year 19 new Inductees joined the 21 Charter Inductees. At the Selection Committee meeting it was immediately obvious that Ed Snider's accomplishments are simply too wide-ranging, impactful and longstanding [1]to fit either of the Hall of Fame's non-ballot Inductee categories, Legacy of Excellence or Lifetime Commitment.
To address this the Hall of Fame created The Philadelphia Medal, announced at the 2005 Inductee Class press conference.[2]
