The Pushkar and Barabash Uprising was an armed rebellion that took place in 1657–1658 in the Cossack Hetmanate against the authority of Hetman Ivan Vyhovsky. The uprising was led by Poltava colonel Martyn Pushkar and Kosh otaman Yakiv Barabash.
During the conflict, the insurgents received intermittent support from Moscow.[1][2][3]
The uprising ended with the defeat of the rebels, the deaths of its leaders, and the consolidation of Vyhovsky's power. It is considered one of the early episodes of the Ruin, a period of civil war and political instability in Ukraine following the death of Bohdan Khmelnytsky.
