Roni Chowdhury

Roni Chowdhury (born 18 May 1985) is an Indian journalist, wildlife conservationist, and environmental activist from West Bengal. He is currently a district correspondent for TV9 Bangla, covering the Jalpaiguri region. With more than two decades of experience in journalism, he has worked with several regional, national, and international news organizations.

Early Life and Education Chowdhury was born in Dhupguri, a town in Jalpaiguri district, West Bengal. Details about his formal education are not publicly documented, but he has been associated with journalism since a young age.

Career Chowdhury began his career in journalism in the early 2000s. Over the span of 22 years, he has contributed to multiple news outlets, including print and television. He has reported for both regional and national newspapers, as well as news channels in India and abroad. Currently, he is employed with TV9 Bangla as a journalist based in Jalpaiguri.

Wildlife Conservation In addition to his journalism career, Chowdhury is known for his involvement in wildlife conservation, particularly snake rescue and human-wildlife conflict mitigation. He has independently rescued and released over 50,000 snakes—both venomous and non-venomous—into their natural habitats. His work has involved species such as the King Cobra, Indian Rock Python, Spectacled Cobra, Common Krait, Banded Krait, and Russell’s Viper.

Chowdhury also organizes awareness campaigns in rural areas to educate communities on peaceful coexistence with wildlife and the importance of biodiversity conservation.
