Sandfall Interactive — A French video game development studio, founded in 2020 in the city of Montpellier, focussing on PC and console video games.[1][2] The company was established by Guillaume Bros and Tom Guiermain, who previously worked at Ubisoft.[3][4]. It is primarily known for its first game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, released in 2025.

Sandfall Interactive was founded in 2020 Guillaume Broche, who was working at Ubisoft at the time. He reportedly wanted to develop a game in the tradition of Final Fantasy. The core team was recruited on online platforms like Soundcloud and Reddit. The first game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 was financed by Kepler.[5][6] They also received support from Epic Games.[7] Development started with about 10 people, with the team growing to about 30 over the course of development, some recruited from other games studios such as Square Enix and FromSoftware.[8][9][10]

After the sucess of its first game, Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, the studio announced that it didn't plan to expand significantly in the near future.[11][12][13]

Clair Obscur: Expedition 33

The studio's debut game was Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, released on April 24, 2025, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. The game is a turn-based RPG. Although developed outside of Japan, it is generally considered a JRPG.[14] It has been particularly likened to Final Fantasy.[15] It features turn based combat combined with quick-time events to avoid damage.

It follows a group of characters who embark on an Expedition to kill a supernatural being called The Paintress. In the story, the characters embark on an expedition to stop a mysterious entity that is destroying people of a certain age. The game received positive reviews from critics and users. According to GamesRadar, the project sold over 500,000 copies within the first 24 hours after its release.[16]

The Game was reviewed very well across the world and sold more than 3.3 Million copies within 33 days of release.[17][18]
