Selva RK (sometimes credited as Selva R. K.) is an Indian film editor who works primarily in Tamil-language cinema. He is best known for shaping critically acclaimed features such as Pariyerum Perumal (2018), Karnan (2021), and Sarpatta Parambarai (2021).[1]
Early years
[edit]Selva RK studied Visual Communication at Loyola College, Chennai, where he developed an interest in film and explored editing through student projects. He created short films such as Uyir Vaasam and Yemattram during this period. After graduating, he began working in the film industry as an assistant editor, where he gained experience in post-production processes under the guidance of technicians Praveen K. L. and Srikanth N. B.[2]
Career
[edit]Selva RK made his debut as a feature film editor with Sakalakala Vallavan (2015).[3] He later edited Mari Selvaraj’s Pariyerum Perumal (2018), followed by Karnan (2021).[4]
His editing work in Pa. Ranjith’s boxing drama Sarpatta Parambarai (2021) was highlighted by reviewers for its pacing and structure.[5] The film earned him the Critics’ Choice Award for Best Editing in 2022.[6] That same year, he also received the Black Sheep Digital Award for Best Editor (OTT).[7]
He has worked on a range of films including Maamannan, Bommai Nayagi, Blue Star, and Singapore Saloon, collaborating with directors such as Mari Selvaraj, Pa. Ranjith, and S. Jayakumar.
