ShowPony are an Australian musical duo based in Sydney, comprised of Mick Ellis (guitar, vocals) and Lauren Ellis (vocals, piano). Formed in 2013, the pair are known for their modern interpretations of Japanese city pop classics. They gained prominence through live performances and their retro-inspired music videos on YouTube and have built a dedicated international following.[1]

Influences

Their overall sound is influenced by artists such as Mondo Rock, Chaka Khan and Mariya Takeuchi. The ShowPony YouTube channel includes widely viewed renditions of Plastic Love and Aliens, both noted for their vocal harmonies and stylized production.[2][3]

Recognition

ShowPony are seven-time nominees for the ACE Awards (Australian Club Entertainment Awards), recognising excellence in live entertainment[4]. They have been featured on Japanese national television, including NHK World-Japan and TBS Television (Tokyo Broadcasting System Television), highlighting their contribution to the global resurgence of city pop.[5]
