Simon Dawson is a musician and British record producer known mainly for his work as drummer in the groups Iron Maiden, The Outfield and British Lion.[1]

Career

[edit]

Dawson started his career as a drummer in the band Deep Switch, within the movement of the New Wave of British Heavy Metal. He participated in recording the only record of the group, Nine Inches of God (1986), using the pseudonym Simon De Montford. In the 1990s he was a member of the thrash metal band, Dearly Beheaded.[1]

In 1989 he replaced the drummer Alan Jackman in the British pop band The Outfield, taking part in recording various records and remaining an active member of the group until 2009.[2]Other bands he played in include Dirty Deeds and Air Race.[3]

In 2012 he was a drummer in British Lion, a record credited to the musician Steve Harris, known for being the founder of Iron Maiden. He continued working on the project, which finally turned into its own band called British Lion, and in 2020 he played in his second album, titled The Burning.[1]

In December of 2024 he was announced as Iron Maiden's new live drummer, replacing Nicko McBrain, who had to stop touring due to health problems.[4][5][6] His debut with the British group is expected for the 27th of May 2025, when the Run For Your Lives World Tour starts.[1][5]
