Song Zhenxi (1985 – February 5, 2024) was an independent curator and art criticism scholar. Originally named Zhang Songzhen, he was born in Wuhan.[1]
Biography
[edit]In 2008, he graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Art History from the China Academy of Art; in 2012, he obtained a Master's degree from the Institute of Contemporary Art and Social Thought at the China Academy of Art; in 2022, he earned a Doctorate in Contemporary Art Theory and Practice from the China Academy of Art.[2]
During his lifetime, he served as a researcher at the Exhibition Culture Research Center of the China Academy of Art, Director of the Curatorial Department at the Media City R&D Center of the China Academy of Art, and founder of the Contemporary Art Bureau of Investigation (ABI).[2]
On February 5, 2024, at 14:10 PM, he suffered a cardiac arrest while traveling in Sabah, Malaysia, and was urgently rushed to Queen Elizabeth Hospital I in Sabah. He passed away at 15:32 PM after unsuccessful resuscitation, at the age of 39.[1]
Artistic Style
[edit]He long focused on the development and ecology of young contemporary artists, dedicating himself to bridging the cultivation of academic artists with the overall ecosystem of contemporary art. Meanwhile, he researched contemporary art topics and phenomena, integrating multiple cultural research methods into contemporary art discourse to explore paths and methods for the cross-disciplinary survival of future art. He participated in numerous urban cultural evolution projects to make the role of contemporary art more effective and timely.[1]
