Soojit Dutta (born 26 January 1981), also known as Soojit Rino Dutta, is an Indian film director, screenwriter, and production designer primarily working in Bengali cinema. He is known for his raw, socially grounded storytelling and visual style. He rose to prominence with the critically acclaimed film Khadaan - Wikipedia.
Early life
[edit]Dutta was born in Kolkata, West Bengal. His early years and formal training details remain largely private, though he began his career in regional and independent film circuits before moving to mainstream Bengali cinema.
Career
[edit]2022: City of Jackals
[edit]Soojit Dutta made his directorial debut with City of Jackals (2022), a gritty urban drama exploring the lives of marginalized individuals in a dystopian city. Dutta also served as the screenwriter and production designer on the film.
2024: Khadaan
[edit]In 2024, he directed Khadaan - Wikipedia, a Bengali action thriller set in the coal belts of West Bengal. The film, starring Dev in a double role alongside Jisshu Sengupta, dealt with themes of power, greed, and loyalty. Dutta co-wrote the screenplay and dialogues with Biswaroop Biswas. The film was released on 20 December 2024 to critical and commercial success, and went on to win multiple awards, including nominations for Best Director at the 8th Filmfare Awards Bangla.
Dutta is currently directing the sequel, Khadaan 2, continuing the legacy of the original.
