Tabish Ahmed Hashmi (born 1 January 1985) is a Pakistani stand-up comedian and television host, best known for presenting an unscripted late-night talk show Hasna Mana Hai on Geo News.

Early and personal life

[edit]

Tabish Hashmi was born in Karachi, Pakistan, on 1 January 1985. He completed BS Electronic engineering from Sir Syed University of Engineering and Technology achieving scholarships, and MBA from Institute of Business Administration, Karachi. He married to Hira Khalid in 2012; together they have a daughter and a son.[1][2][3][4] In 2024, he was honoured with Excellence Award by his alma mater IBA.[5]

Career

[edit]

In 2004, Tabish started public speaking, carrying forward he became a stand-up comedian after completing university. He was discovered in 2008 by Azfar Ali, a Pakistani director, who tried offering him mainstream roles. He claimed his work was also recognized by Moin Akhtar.[6] After graduation, he was employed in a Pakistani firm in supply chain management, then moved to Canada to pursue his career in 2019.[1][7][8]

He also had performed stand-up shows with The Laughing Stock, and used to make his own comedy skits on social media.[9][10] Before flying, he had recorded first season of To Be Honest with Azfar, it was premiered digitally by Nashpati Prime during COVID-19 pandemic in Pakistan after being delayed.[1][11] The show's success made him an internet sensation, and gained him a nomination at 2nd Pakistan International Screen Awards.[9][12][13] During his occasional visits back in Pakistan, he recorded three seasons,[14] and co-hosted 2021 and 2022 Lux Style Awards.[15][16]

In 2022, he returned to Pakistan and joined Geo News to host a late-night talk show Hasna Mana Hai, which airs thrice a week.[17][18] During cricket seasons, he hosts daily live show Haarna Mana Hai, previously known as Jashan e Cricket, as well featuring cricketers' panel for match analysis.[19][20][21] In December 2024, he co-hosted 17th International Urdu Conference with Waseem Badami at Arts Council of Pakistan Karachi.[22]

Tabish has faced criticism over his double entendre jokes,[23][24] and confessed that many celebrities hesitate to be his on-screen guest.[25][26] He clarified his show and humour being unscripted.[27]
