Vision Group is a Canadian network of ophthalmology clinics and vision correction providers headquartered in Montreal, Quebec. The organization offers a comprehensive range of eye care services, including laser refractive surgery, intraocular procedures, and subspecialty ophthalmology. Vision Group operates over 70 clinics across Canada and the United States, employing more than 1,400 staff members and over 150 ophthalmic surgeons.
History Vision Group was co-founded in 2001 by Dr. Mark Cohen and Dr. Avi Wallerstein with the establishment of the first LASIK MD clinics in Montreal and Toronto. Their mission was to make laser vision correction safe, affordable, and accessible.
In 2017, LASIK MD merged with TLC Laser Eye Centres to form Vision Group, expanding its footprint across North America. Dr. Avi Wallerstein, MD, FRCSC, is the Executive Vice President of Vision Group. He earned his medical degree from Queen's University and completed his ophthalmology residency at McGill University. Dr. Wallerstein has also performed over 60,000 laser eye surgeries and has been instrumental in developing new technologies and techniques in refractive surgery. Research and Education' Both Dr. Cohen and Dr. Wallerstein are certified C-LASIK instructors and have contributed significantly to refractive surgery research. In 2020, Dr. Wallerstein received the Waring Medal for a paper published in the Journal of Refractive Surgery, co-authored with Dr. Cohen and Dr. Mathieu Gauvin.
Dr. Wallerstein is also the Director of Optics and Refractive Surgery teaching at McGill University and has established Canada's first laser eye surgery teaching curriculum.
Awards and Recognition Vision Group has been recognized as one of Canada's Best Managed Companies annually since 2007.
In 2008, Dr. Cohen and Dr. Wallerstein received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award in the professional/financial services category for Quebec.
In 2024, Dr. Cohen was the recipient of the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Quebec Award.
