Volt Ireland
[edit]Volt Ireland (Irish: Volt Éire) is the Irish chapter of the Pan-European, European Federalist political party, Volt Europa.[2] Volt Ireland was founded on October 14th 2021.
The leader of Volt Ireland, Alessandro Del Gener said that he is "very excited to launch our new Volt Ireland website, which will explain key policy stances that Volt wishes to make across Europe, including here in Ireland." he listed the main issues Volt Ireland wish to tackle through their policies, which include housing, healthcare, economic stability, and social equality.
Co-President of Volt at the time, Reinier van Lanschot added, “We are so excited to spread the message about Volt to the Irish public." and invited Irish voters to look into Volt Ireland, to learn that a "European alternative is possible"
The parties launch came before the 2021 Volt Europa General Assembly, in which the new Irish wing of the party sent delegates to the the General Assembly in Lisbon[3]
Ideology
[edit]Volt Ireland follows the ideology of their parent party Volt Europa, which is described as "pragmatic", and "progressive"[4] Volt Europa also follows European Federalism Volt Ireland's policy platform aligns with Volt Europa's "5+1 Challenges," focusing on:
1. Smart State - Digitalisation of European services
2. Economic Renaissance - Innovative economy
3. Social Equality - No one should be left behind
4. Global Balance - Assuming responsibility in it's role on the global stage
5. Citizen Empowerment - Empowering people to influence politics beyond elections
+1. EU Reform - Improvement of the European Union
On foreign policy, Volt Ireland supports Ukraine in the Russo-Ukrainian war. In response to the ICC ruling placing an arrest warrant of Russian president Vladimir Putin, Volt Ireland said that the warrant was "mostly symbolic", but shows the importance of fighting against war crimes and breaches of international law, not only by Russia, but also by China, and the United States, such as the breaches of international law in Afghanistan, and Iraq.[5] Volt Ireland support the Northern Ireland protocol.[6]
