Essential World English

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Essential World English is a simpler and more natural form of English. It was made by Lancelot Hogben in 1963.

Here are some important things about Essential World English:

  • It uses only 1,300 main words, along with a small number of new or changing words (like slang or special terms). People are meant to learn 50 words each week.
  • It tries to use different words for different meanings, instead of using the same word for many things (which is a problem in Basic English).
  • The spelling is simpler and easier than in normal English.
