Fabio Panetta (born 1 August 1959) is an Italian economist who has been the Governor of the Bank of Italy since 2023. He was a member of the Executive Board of the European Central Bank from 2020 until 2023. He also was Senior Deputy Governor of the Bank of Italy and was President of the Institute for the Supervision of Insurance at the same time from May to December 2019.[1]
In June 2023, the Italian Council of Ministers, on the proposal of Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, appointed Panetta as new Governor of the Bank of Italy.[2]
