Summary

Description
English: Audio recording of the call of a bird, the male Eastern Whipbird, a native bird that inhabits much of the forested areas of the east coast of Australia. As the name implies - and as you will hear - its call resembles the loud cracking of a whip. The call of the male Eastern Whipbird is one of the most familiar to bush-walkers in eastern Australia and, along with the Laughing Kookaburra's call, it is one of the icons of the Aussie bush. Between the loud whip-cracks, you hear chatter of other birds in the area and, right at the end, the triple call of the female Eastern Whipbird, responding to the male's call. It was originally recorded on a Sony MiniDisc Walkman circa 2000 and transferred to my computer. This recording was made on the slopes of the Illawarra Range, behind the northern suburbs of Wollongong, N.S.W., Australia, close to Broker's Nose. I could not see the bird at all when making the recording.

I added a couple of seconds of silence on the end, in the hope that, if it was clipped, the silent portion would be the only loss.
