Jiansanjiang (Chinese: 建三江; pinyin: Jiànsānjiāng; lit. 'built on the Sanjiang Plain') is a Nongken agricultural colony, under the management of Beidahuang Group of State Farms and Land Reclamation Jiangsanjiang Branch. The area, consists of 15 state farms, is situated at eastern Heilongjiang province of China, across Fujin City, Tongjiang City, Fuyuan City, and Raohe County.[2][3] Population of the area is about 270,000.[4] About 8 million tons of food are produced by the area every years.[5]
Administration
[edit]Until year 2017, the government function of the area was performed by Heilongjiang Bureau of State Farms and Land Reclamation , instead of local government. The government of Heilongjiang province pushed for changes in the year, converting the Bureau into a pure economic corporation, while local governments take up the role of governance including law enforcement and so on.[6][7] The Bureau officially converted into state owned enterprise in year 2019[8] while the government functions are transferred to local governments progressively by then.[3]
Agriculture
[edit]
Being an agricultural colony (Chinese: 农垦; pinyin: nóngkěn) under the management of former Heilongjiang Bureau of State Farms and Land Reclamation , Jiansanjiang has a rich history of agriculture, and is known for having areas of chernozemic soil.[9] The city is discussed in detail in academic papers on Agriculture in China: notably China Agricultural University has an experimental station looking at rice varieties in the city.[10]
Jiansanjiang is known as China's green rice city,[11] and its Honghe farm (Chinese: 洪河农场; lit. 'grand river farm') was the first modernised farm in the whole of China, making use of agricultural drones and other technologies.[12]
Detection camp
[edit]In year 2014, it is reported that local administration made use of its special legal status to set up "Legal detention center" that are illegal in nature, to target people associated with Falun Gong.[13] These facilities have been in use for torture from before.[14] Together with those people, four human rights lawyers, namely Tang Jitian, Jiang Tianyong, Wang Cheng, and Zhang Junjie who provide legal assistance to these victims were also being detained, tortured, injured, and the nature caused the facility being described as "black jail" in reports and media, and "brainwashing class" by local residents.[15][16][17] These lawyers remain monitored by Chinese government decade after the incident.[18]
Transportation
[edit]
Jiansanjiang Shidi Airport was opened in October 2017.[19] By road, Jiansanjiang connects to the G1011 via the S11 Jianji Expressway.
Jiansanjiang also connects to Harbin (via Jiamusi) and Fuyuan by rail.
Science
[edit]The asteroid 207723 Jiansanjiang is named after the city.[12]
