Johnathan Bond (born October 11, 1967) is an American gospel singer, songwriter, and producer based in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is best known for his work with the gospel group Young Harmony and has been active in Christian music ministries[1] since 1995.[2][3][4][5][6]

Career

Early Career and Ministry

Bond began his music ministry in 1995 and gained early recognition through performances at churches, festivals, and community events. His music is centered on Christian themes, and his outreach includes prison ministry and faith-based recovery support.[2]

He has written and recorded songs primarily for HIS Choice Music Publishing, and is affiliated as a songwriter with Broadcast Music, Inc. (BMI). Bond is also a member of the National Songwriters Association International (NSAI), the Gospel Music Association (GMA), and the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences (NARAS), the organization responsible for the Grammy Awards.[2]

Personal life

Bond resides in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He is the son of Daniel Leroy Bond (born October 9, 1944) and LaCreta Ann Smith Bond (born July 12, 1946). He has one son, Jesse Markale Bond (born June 3, 1988), and a daughter-in-law, Courtney. Johnathan Bond is also a grandfather to five grandchildren: MacKenzie Jade Bond (born May 8, 2012), Myla Danielle Bond (born August 20, 2015), Journey Brooklyn Bond (born July 2, 2018), Kiah Grace Bond (born May 24, 2020), and Jax Maverick Bond (born September 11, 2021). His family frequently plays a role in his ministry and music.[6]

1991 Car Accident and Recovery - In September 1991, Bond was involved in a serious car accident when an 18-wheeler forced his vehicle into oncoming traffic. The crash resulted in multiple severe injuries, including a fractured skull, brain trauma, broken ribs, and paralysis from the waist down. Initial reports at the scene declared him deceased, but according to later accounts, he regained consciousness after being prepared to be identified by the family. Bond attributed his recovery to divine intervention. He eventually made a full recovery and continued his ministry work. The incident has been described in various interviews and testimonies shared by Bond.[7]

Performances and concerts

Performance at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church (Laurens, SC)

In December 2023, WLBG reported that Grammy-nominated artist Johnathan Bond of Young Harmony was scheduled to perform at Mount Pleasant Baptist Church on January 14, 2024. Bond emphasized the group's mission to reach diverse audiences through their ministry.[3]

Davidson Street Baptist Church (Clinton, SC)[13]

Who's On The Move announced that Johnathan Bond would be performing at Davidson Street Baptist Church [14] on March 1, 2025. The event was described as an evening of uplifting music and testimony, open to the community.[15]

Release of "Cries from the Cross"

The Smithville Review reported in December 2021 that Johnathan Bond collaborated with local songwriter Vonda Brown to record a music video for their song "Cries from the Cross" at Smithville First Freewill Baptist Church. The video featured scenes depicting the crucifixion and a church praise service. DeKalb County News[16][5]

Who's On The Move featured an article about Johnathan Bond's scheduled performance at Wayside Baptist Church on January 5, 2025. The concert was part of a special service aimed at providing an uplifting musical experience for attendees.[18]

Riding The Wave Radio announced that Johnathan Bond would be performing at Charity Baptist Church on February 16, 2025. The event was promoted as an inspirational service featuring singing and testimony.[20]

Major awards and honors

North America Country Music Hall of Fame In 2008, Johnathan Bond was honored for his impact on gospel music with an induction into the North America Country Music Hall of Fame. GMA Dove Award

2005: The album Faith, Hope, and Joy[21] received a nomination for Album of the Year.

2006: The song "Good Morning Lord"[22] was nominated for Song of the Year.

2007: "God's Still God"[23] earned dual nominations for Southern Gospel Song of the Year and Overall Song of the Year. The album Strength[24] was recognized with a nomination for Southern Gospel Album of the Year.

Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award

In 2020, Johnathan Bond received the Presidential Lifetime Achievement Award, a United States honor recognizing individuals who have contributed more than 4,000 hours of service in their communities. The award, associated with the President's Volunteer Service Award program. The award was presented by President Donald J. Trump.[25][26]
