Yu hails from a family with a significant presence in local politics. His father is Sulpicio T. Yu, a former vice-mayor of Calape (1980–1986).[14] His uncles include Gerardo T. Yu, a former mayor of Calape (1992–1995);[15] Gerardo's son, Jesus Yves B. Yu, served as Vice Mayor of Calape (2004–2007).[16][citation needed] Another uncle, Vicente Tan Yu, served as a municipal councilor of Calape (2004–2013).[16][4][5] His brother, Nelson N. Yu, also served as mayor of the same municipality (2016–2022).[7][8] Other relatives, such as Vicente Tan Yu's grandson Bill Mark Yu, who served as a councilor of the same municipality (2013–2022, 2025-present).[6][7][17][3]
Medical career
[edit]Before dedicating himself fully to politics, Dr. Yu Jr. practiced medicine. He served the community of Calape as its Municipal Health Officer from circa 1991 to 2007.[18][19] His specialization is in Family Medicine.[13]
Political career
[edit]Known publicly as "Doc Junie Yu,"[1] Dr. Yu Jr.'s political career in Calape spans almost two decades, characterized by his service in the municipality's top executive posts. He has been associated with Lakas-Kampi CMD, the Liberal Party, and, as confirmed by his 2025 Certificate of Candidacy and 2022 election run, the National Unity Party (NUP).[7][8][9][2]
Early public service

First mayoral tenure (2007–2016)

The Ombudsman found Yu Jr. acted within his authority as Presiding Officer of the Sangguniang Bayan.[20] Upon his election as Mayor in 2025, he was succeeded as Vice Mayor by Roldan O.
