Faizal Khan (born 1993), known professionally as Khan Sir (pronounced [ˈxɑːn sɪɽ] ⓘ), is an Indian Educator and YouTuber based in Patna, Bihar. He runs a coaching centre for students preparing for different kinds of competitive exams in India.[2]
Early life and education
Khan was born into a middle-class family in Deoria, Uttar Pradesh, in 1993. His father worked as a contractor and his mother was a housewife.[1][3] He completed his early schooling from Deoria's Parmar Mission School in Bhatpar Rani. After completing his schooling, he studied at University of Allahabad, pursuing a Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) degree followed by a Master of Science (M.Sc.) degree. Additionally, he holds a Master of Arts (M.A.) degree in geography.[citation needed]
In 2025, Khan announced that he has married AS Khan.[4]
Teaching career
After completing his postgraduate studies, Khan Sir began his teaching career at a local coaching institute in Patna, Bihar. His simple, humorous, and grounded teaching style quickly earned him popularity among students preparing for competitive exams such as UPSC, SSC, and railway recruitment tests.[citation needed]
Initially, he taught small batches of students, but due to his growing popularity, the number of students increased significantly. It is reported that the coaching management once asked him to teach under a pseudonym to prevent students from following him if he decided to leave.[citation needed]
In 2019, Khan Sir established his own coaching institute named **Khan GS Research Centre** in Patna.[5] His goal was to provide quality education to economically weaker students at an affordable fee. During the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, he shifted his focus to online education through YouTube, launching his channel **Khan GS Research Centre**, which rapidly gained popularity for its easy-to-understand explanations of current affairs and general studies topics.[6]
In 2021, he also launched a mobile application to provide structured courses digitally. His online reach expanded tremendously, helping students across India prepare for government exams.[7]
Youtube career
In 2019, his coaching in Patna was closed because of COVID-19. At that time, he started his YouTube channel named Khan GS Research Centre and started teaching online. He also launched an app in 2021 and started offering online courses to the students who were not able to come to the city to study offline.[8]
Controversies
On 24 April 2021 Khan shared a video on France-Pakistan relations that eventually went viral. Many X (Twitter) users criticised the video and said called Khan Sir Islamophobic. Others found some pictures of him celebrating Raksha Bandhan, a festival that is mainly celebrated by Hindus, after which he had to issue a clarification on YouTube.[1]
On 27 January 2022 a FIR was lodged at the Patrakar Nagar police station against six teachers of different private coaching centres, including Khan's, and 16 others in connection with violent protests over the Railway Recruitment Board's NTPC examination. The FIR was registered on the basis of statement of some protesters who were taken into custody by the police during the violent protests at the Rajendra Nagar Terminal.[9][10]
On 7 December 2024 Khan took part in a protest against the changes made in BPSC preliminary examination.[11]
