Laiphangba (also spelled Laiphangpa) was a king of the Khuman dynasty, a prominent ruling house in ancient Kangleipak (present-day Manipur). He ruled from 570 CE to 620 CE.[1][2]
He was the son and successor of Khomba Ningthouba and a contemporary of the later reign of the Meitei king Ura Konthouba of the Ningthouja dynasty who ruled from 567 CE to 657 CE.[3][4]
Reign
[edit]In 575 CE, Laiphangba developed Mayang Imphal as a second capital of the Khuman kingdom, alongside the existing seat of power at Thoubal.[1][2] This move symbolized a dual-capital structure and reflected the growing political and administrative importance of both regions.[2]
Under his rule, the Khuman kingdom expanded its influence further westward.[1][2][3][4]
Legacy
[edit]His son, Punshi Yumoiba, succeeded him and further strengthened Mayang Imphal's position as a royal capital.[1][2][3][4]
