Mixtape is a narrative adventure game developed by Beethoven & Dinosaur and published by Annapurna Interactive. The title is inspired tonally and visually by 1980s "coming-of-age" films similar to the work of John Hughes. It is scheduled for release in 2025.[1]

Gameplay and Story

[edit]

The story-driven adventure follows three friends on the last night of high school as they make their way to a party, reminiscing about their teenage years together growing up in North California.[2] The player controls Rockford, who has dreamed of being a ‘Music Supervisor’ since she was eight years old.[3]

Developer Johnny Galvatron described the feel of the game as "sorta like channel-surfing [old-school] MTV at 3 AM".[4]

The title is "soundtrack-driven", featuring music from Devo, Smashing Pumpkins, Iggy Pop, Joy Division, and more.[5]

Development

[edit]

Melbourne, Australia-based studio Beethoven & Dinosaur had previously developed a music themed platforming title The Artful Escape, also published by Annapurna Interactive and released in 2021.[6]

Release

[edit]

At Summer Games Fest 2025, Mixtape was confirmed to be releasing on Xbox Game Pass.[7][8]
