1"Stick or Twist"Guy RitchieRonan Bennett and Jez ButterworthMarch 30, 2025 (2025-03-30)
Harry Da Souza, a fixer for the Harrigan crime family led by Conrad Harrigan and his devious wife Maeve, mediates a truce between two Harrigan-affiliated mob bosses. They are later eliminated along with their crews for stealing from Conrad. Eddie, Conrad's grandson, goes on a drug-fuelled night out with Tommy Stevenson, son of rival crime boss Richie Stevenson, and his two friends. They end up at a club where Eddie recklessly stabs a patron, Hughie Campbell, forcing the group to split and flee. At an operations front in a garage, Kevin and Bella, Eddie’s parents, call Harry in to fix the mess. He intimidates the club’s owner, Valjon, into deleting the night’s CCTV footage, threatens Hughie into compliance at the hospital, and disposes of Eddie's clothes at a Harrigan-owned mortuary. He then returns home to his daughter Gina and his wife, Jan, who has begun therapy to deal with his prolonged absences. She meets a curious woman named Alice there, whom she befriends. News then arrives that Tommy has gone missing, and that Richie knew Eddie was with him. Eddie, however, denies any knowledge of Tommy's whereabouts. As tensions rise, the two families agree to a sit-down. At the meeting, Harry asks Richie for a day to investigate, while his team of Zosia and Kiko lie in wait. Maeve and Conrad then call off a spontaneous hit on Richie as he and Harry leave. Later that night, Conrad invites his eldest son, Brendan, Kevin, their half-sister Seraphina, longtime advisor Archie, and family lawyer O'Hara to a meeting, announcing his decision to improve the family's finances by getting into the fentanyl trade controlled by the Stevensons. Archie objects, but Conrad kills him after Maeve, having stated her suspicions to Conrad previously, reveals his alleged dealings with the Stevensons to the rest of the family.

Harry arrives to dispose of Archie's body while Kevin recounts the night’s events. Conrad and Maeve affirm their decision to move in on the fentanyl. Harry, however, is arrested suspiciously quickly the following morning, revealed to be the result of a tip-off by someone inside the family's circle. He is questioned and coerced by an officer, DS Fisk, to give up the Harrigans before O'Hara gets him out. After an uneasy face-to-face meeting with Richie, who insists on questioning Eddie himself, Kevin has Eddie moved to Conrad and Maeve's estate, the Cotswolds, by Zosia and Kiko. Richie's thugs attempt to kidnap or kill Eddie en route, but are foiled. Meanwhile, Brendan comes to Seraphina with a business proposition, but she dismisses him on account of his ineptitude and leaves. Harry raises the possibility that Archie was a police informant, yet unaware of the other, and is asked to find proof by an enraged Conrad. Bella orchestrates a secret meeting between her estranged father, Lord Pennock, and her shady associate Antoine to grant the latter access to Pennock’s government contacts. Harry then meets Richie in another mediation, but Richie reveals surveillance on Gina, threatening to use her as collateral if Tommy is not found. An increasingly upset Jan contemplates divorce, and Bella asks for Harry's help with the plot to gain leverage on her father. Maeve comforts Eddie, and her deep influence on him is revealed. Harry then tracks down Richie’s two friends from the night of the incident, and they reveal that Eddie knew Valjon, who had feigned ignorance when questioned about Eddie earlier. Returning to the club with Kiko, Harry viciously beats Valjon into submission, and he confesses to knowing Tommy’s whereabouts. He then leads Harry to a trunk in the back of the club, containing Tommy's ravaged, dismembered corpse.
3"Plan B"Anthony ByrneRonan Bennett and Jez ButterworthApril 13, 2025 (2025-04-13)
A bomb goes off at Kevin's house, and Harry takes Jan and Gina to Mike, an indebted "friend", to lay low. He threatens two of Richie's thugs into retreat before meeting Kevin and Eddie at a covert shipyard, noting a tail by DS Fisk and his partner, Mukasa. Harry and Kevin then confront Eddie with a bloodied Valjon, and it is revealed that Eddie murdered Tommy and paid Valjon £10,000 to get rid of the body. A furious Kevin updates Conrad and Maeve, who don't even berate Eddie at Maeve’s behest. They privately agree to let Harry sort out the situation, but to murder Richie's wife, Vron, and then him as a contingency. Harry loses the police tail with Kevin's help and fulfils a promise to Jan by getting their helper's mother into a nursing home. He spots a former corrections officer there, Rusby, who had abused him and Kevin where they first met, incarcerated together as youngsters. Kevin and Harry then cleverly convince Valjon to take the fall for Tommy's murder, using his children as additional leverage. Richie appears convinced when Valjon is brought to him later, but continues to torture him through the night. Bella privately requests Harry’s assistance again after the meeting between her father and Antoine went sideways. The episode ends with the police recovering Archie's body after receiving another anonymous tip.
4"Rat Trap"Anthony ByrneRonan Bennett and Jez ButterworthApril 20, 2025 (2025-04-20)
The recovery of Archie’s body rouses suspicion of another mole in the family, especially from Maeve, as only Conrad and Harry knew where he was buried. Kevin and Harry continue to await Richie’s verdict from his torture of Valjon, where Kevin divulges a disturbing truth about Bella. A mysterious stranger, Donnie, claiming to be Harry’s friend, visits Zosia at the garage, promising Harry “good news”. Jan proceeds with couples’ therapy until Conrad visits her and Alice at the Da Souza home, threatening her into keeping her silence about Harry and the family’s affairs. Maeve continues her manipulation of Eddie and her secret ploy. After a tense discussion, Jan tells Harry about Conrad’s visit, which causes concerns, while it is also revealed that Alice is a mole for the police, working to get closer to Conrad. Harry visits Bella with the meeting recordings he had earlier strong-armed from Antoine and warns her against the clandestine deal again, but she persists. As Harry leaves, he bumps into an arriving Kevin, leading to an awkward conversation between the husband and wife after. Harry is then asked to come alone by Richie to finish off Valjon as a sign of good faith, which he brutally does, appeasing the seemingly convinced Stevenson boss. However, Richie ominously requests that the Harrigans attend Tommy’s funeral.
5"Funeral for a Friend"Daniel SyrkinRonan Bennett and Jez ButterworthApril 27, 2025 (2025-04-27)
The Harrigans, of Conrad, Maeve, Kevin, Eddie and Harry, discuss battle plans for Tommy’s wake and funeral, where the entire family, including Jan and Bella, are expected. They ultimately decide to follow Harry’s plan to attend, but to have weapons smuggled as a safeguard. A shunned Brendan approaches the similarly omitted Seraphina with another offer to step up for the family with a diamond deal in Antwerp, which she accepts on her terms. Kevin recalls his traumatic abuse at the hands of Rusby. Harry then meets Freddie, a disgruntled Stevenson hand, and blackmails him into smuggling the weapons into the Stevenson home. The Harrigans attend the services as planned, with Fisk and crew, unknowingly tipped off by Jan, watching them off-site. Tensions rise amongst the group, especially when Eddie and Maeve go out of their way to antagonise the Stevensons. Vron publicly insults Maeve before Harry and Kevin drug the Harrigan matriarch to avoid further escalation. At the following sit-down, Richie privately reveals that he knew Valjon was a ruse, but wants no war, except for Eddie to be fair game if the Stevensons can get to him. An enraged Maeve, however, breaks the uneasy truce and has Vron killed the next day with a planted car bomb.
6"Antwerp Blues"Daniel SyrkinRonan Bennett and Jez ButterworthMay 4, 2025 (2025-05-04)
As all-out war brews in the fallout of Vron's murder, Kevin, Bella, Harry, Jan and a furious Gina move into the Cotswolds. Donnie returns with an offer from his boss, Kat McAllister. In the ensuing family meeting, Conrad covers for Maeve, stating Richie's veiled slights as the reason for triggering the week-old contingency to have Vron killed. He declares war and the eradication of the Stevensons, with Maeve and Eddie also mocking a vengeful Richie when he calls to state similar sentiments. Jan and Bella bond over their shared situation, while Kevin and Harry rue their plans for peace blowing up, with Kevin fearing the end of the Harrigans is near. Harry, Zosia and Kiko are dispatched to find Seraphina and Brendan, now in Antwerp for their diamond deal. Harry warns Bella against her plans a final time before leaving. An increasingly despondent Gina begs Jan to leave Harry and run after an uncomfortable encounter with Conrad. Maeve, with Eddie sitting in, then privately calls Richie with a deal, revealing a long-standing tie with the Stevenson crime boss. She offers up Seraphina as recompense, but to leave Brendan unharmed, giving up the duo's location. Richie's hired guns then descend upon the exchange site with Harry in pursuit, slaughtering everyone and holding Seraphina and Brendan at gunpoint.
7"The Crossroads"Lawrence GoughRonan Bennett and Jez ButterworthMay 11, 2025 (2025-05-11)
Harry arrives at the meeting with no sign of Brendan or Seraphina except for a chilling message from Richie, who has reneged on his arrangement with Maeve by taking Brendan. O’Hara informs the Harrigans that the police net around them is drawing closer, given the recent incidents. The urgency to find the family’s mole increases, with Maeve desperately trying to cover her tracks. Bella works on a new deal with Antoine, while Kevin gets the address of the care home that Rusby was seen at from Maria. Jan leaves the estate to meet Alice, with Fisk and Mukasa remotely in tow, but the tailing Harrigan hand, Paul, intervenes, threatening Alice before he takes Jan back to the Cotswolds. Eddie and Gina grow close. Harry massacres the Moroccans who had aided with Brendan and Seraphina’s abduction, learning the duo’s location at a warehouse in Amsterdam, where the Stevenson-affiliated Mexican cartel holds them. The cartel’s leader, Jaime, arrives for the torture of Brendan and Seraphina, broadcast to the Harrigans via a video call from Richie, who, despite disparaging Maeve, does not give her up. Harry, unable to breach or reach the warehouse in time, caves and calls Donnie, who patches him through to Kat. Declaring that Harry now owes her, she manages to get through to Jaime, but not before Brendan is executed.

Seraphina is safely returned to the Cotswolds, where Harry reveals his deal and previous contact with Kat to Conrad, while stating his loyalty to the Harrigans. Colin Tattersall, a former senior organised crime officer, is brought in to assist Fisk and Mukasa. He suggests they make a deal with Richie instead of infiltrating the Harrigans. Conrad tasks Harry to gather everything he has on the Stevensons, Jaime and the fentanyl trade for a sit-down with Jaime, given his now tenuous relationship with Richie after Amsterdam. However, he wants Kat to broker the meeting, where an unsure Kevin questions further owing the mysterious and powerful Kat, and Conrad’s motives. Jan tells Harry about Gina and Eddie, who daringly taunts him before being silenced by Harry’s sincerity and an unnerving warning. Conrad confronts Jan about her meet-up with Alice, where he insists on speaking with her, eventually inviting her to dinner at the Cotswolds. Bella secures another meeting with Antoine, but is questioned by Conrad and asked to report on Kevin. The ever-manipulative Maeve sows discord between her remaining wards in the wake of Brendan’s death. Harry meets with Freddie to squeeze him for more details on the Stevensons’ fentanyl dealings, but throws him off a roof to his death after finding out about Archie’s innocence and the identity of the family’s mole. Kevin arrives at the nursing home and notes Rusby’s scheduled visits to his wife. Harry attends a virtual meeting with Kat. She agrees to be the intermediary, but states that the favour wasn’t granted to Conrad, but to Harry, who now owes her double. Fisk and Mukasa meet with Richie, but the Stevenson patriarch shoots them both dead in a set-up by Colin, who had been working for Richie the entire time.
9"Beggars Banquet"Anthony ByrneRonan Bennett and Jez ButterworthMay 25, 2025 (2025-05-25)
Eddie wakes to find Conrad in his room, telling him they need to talk. Bella coerces Paul to buy her time before leaving the Cotswolds to meet Antoine while Harry and Conrad discuss the upcoming negotiations with Jaime. Jan, worried about Alice, tells Harry about the dinner with Conrad; Harry agrees to look out for her. Following Fisk and Mukasa’s murders, Colin publicly takes control of their operation and blackmails Alice—whose real name is Nicola—to continue her undercover work despite her growing doubts. A jealous Maeve warns Gina off Eddie. The Harrigan lineup—Conrad, Seraphina, Harry, and Paul— deliberately excluding Maeve, arrive for the sit-down with Jaime. Despite Conrad’s snideness, Seraphina presents their offer. Jaime, however, addresses only Harry, bringing up his admiration of him and his ties with Kat before leaving, stating his consideration of their offer. Bella then finally arranges the meeting with her father, Antoine’s Syrian client and a Home Secretary member, which Antoine records. A tortured Kevin, posing as Rusby’s driver, confronts and kills the seemingly reformed Rusby over his past assaults. Richie’s plan is then revealed: with Nicola at the Cotswolds with a bugged phone, Colin’s tactical team would arrest Conrad and Maeve before bringing them to a waiting Richie. Jaime calls Harry, making his agreement contingent on the Harrigans’ mole being eliminated. Harry, however, informs Conrad, Seraphina and O’Hara of Jaime’s acceptance, setting up a curious meet with the latter. Kat then calls Harry in turn to arrange a separate meeting of their own. A yet unaware and grateful Conrad then probes Harry about Freddie and Jaime’s comments before Nicola’s timely arrival, where she is questioned by Seraphina at Conrad’s earlier direction. Maeve’s insults, however, make her leave, triggering a furious outburst by Conrad as he outs Maeve as the family’s one true mole, per Eddie’s earlier confession. As Nicola bags Conrad’s spent cigar in the dysfunction as grounds for his arrest, she is confronted by Harry, who lets her leave as a defiant Conrad and Maeve are arrested as the family watch.

Production

[edit]

Development

[edit]

The series was first announced in February 2024 as The Donovans, a loosely-based spinoff of the Showtime series Ray Donovan produced by MTV Entertainment Studios and 101 Studios, with Showtime/MTV executives Keith Cox and Nina L. Diaz and 101 Studios' David C. Glasser attached to the project. Ronan Bennett was hired to write the series and executive produce alongside Guy Ritchie, Ivan Atkinson, Glasser, Ron Burkle, Bob Yari, and David Hutkin.[2]

In October 2024, the series was announced to have been reworked into a standalone series with the working title The Associate, with Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren in final negotiations to star.[3] Production began in November 2024 with Hardy, Brosnan and Mirren in London, and the working title was removed. Jez Butterworth, Tom Hardy, Dean Baker, and Kris Thykier joined as executive producers.[4] In February 2025, the final title of the series, MobLand, was revealed.[5]

Casting

[edit]

Tom Hardy, Pierce Brosnan and Helen Mirren officially signed on to star in the series in November 2024.[4] Over the next month, Paddy Considine, Joanne Froggatt, Lara Pulver, Anson Boon, Mandeep Dhillon, Jasmine Jobson, and Alex Fine were added to the cast.[6][7][8] In February 2025, Geoff Bell, Daniel Betts, Lisa Dwan, and Emily Barber joined the cast.[9] In March 2025, Janet McTeer joined the cast.[10]

Filming

[edit]

Production on the series took place between November 2024 and March 2025 in London. At least six of the episodes in the series were written during production, and filming wrapped only four days before the premiere.[4][11]

While filming, a bag of camera equipment was stolen from a set in East London.[12] The thieves later returned and successfully stole more equipment, leading to the firing and replacement of the security team on set.[13]

During production, the set construction company, Helix 3D, went into bankruptcy, leaving several crew members with unpaid wages leading into the holiday season. Hardy initially offered to make up the difference before the production companies paid the workers instead.[14]

Music

[edit]

MobLand's music is composed by Muse's Matt Bellamy and composer Ilan Eshkeri. [15] [16]

The show's theme song is Fontaines D.C.'s Starburster.[17]

The first and second episodes feature songs by The Prodigy; "Firestarter" and "Breathe" respectively.[18]

Release

[edit]

MobLand premiered on Paramount+ on March 30, 2025.[19]

On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, MobLand has an approval rating of 76% based on 37 critics' reviews.[1] Metacritic, which uses a weighted average, assigned a score of 59 out of 100, based on 16 critics, indicating "mixed or average" reviews.[20]
