OIDFA is a non-profit organization based in France that supports the international community of lace enthusiasts which can include lacemakers, textile historians, lace community vendors as well as designers and artists working on lace. The acronym OIDFA stands for the initials of the organization's name in French: L’Organisation Internationale de la Dentelle au Fuseau et à l’Aiguille, or The International Bobbin and Needle Lace Organization. An American subsidiary called OIDFA-USA facilitates the inclusion of members from the USA.

OIDFA was founded in 1982.[1] The mission of the organization includes promotion of the study and practice of lacemaking, using various strategies. Regular conferences and workshops bring lacemakers together for educational opportunities. Quarterly publications provide information on lace history, art, and community meeting opportunities.[2] Members of the organization may also participate in museum exhibitions and provide expertise to museums.[3]

Alternate year in-person conferences have taken place in many locations around Europe.[4] The inaugural Congress took place in 1982, and were held continually until the COVID-19 pandemic situation prevented travel. The 2023 OIDFA Congress in Nova Gorcia, Slovenia included representatives from 21 countries and celebrated the lace traditions in Slovenia.[5] The 2025 location is Kalofer in Bulgaria, and a community activity in preparation for the host city includes a "Rose for Kalofer" pattern that lacemakers around the world can create and send for the display.[6]

Publications from OIDFA include conference proceedings as well as lace techniques,[7] identification, and history including regional costume traditions that include lace.[8]
