Om Murti Anil (Nepali: ओममूर्ति अनिल; born 31 October 1978)[2] is a Nepalese cardiologist, social worker, author and social media influencer. He is the founder of the National Cardiac Centre and is recognized for his contributions to cardiovascular health awareness in Nepal and beyond.6
In 2014, he led and funded an 11-day heart camp, the largest in the country, providing free heart checkups and treatment to 6859 individuals along with research on causes of heart disease in youths.[3][4]
He has published two books: Ma Pani Doctor (2013), aimed at public health education; and Jiwanta Sambandha (2023), a memoir exploring the importance of relationships and fatherhood.[5][6] He also founded the Dr. Om Foundation in 2023, a non-profit organization that conducts free health camps, offers scholarships to underprivileged students, and promotes social transformation through community-based initiatives. Anil has received several honors, including the Prime Minister National Talent Award for his contributions to the health sector, particularly in raising health awareness and providing remote medical services through technology,along with the Nepal Bidhyabhusan Padak and the Suprabal Janasewa Shree – III. He has over 1.4 million followers on Facebook and more than 150,000 subscribers on YouTube, where he shares his guidance and motivational posts on leading a healthy lifestyle. [11] He also has set two world records which includes Guinness World Records in cardiovascular health awareness.[12][13][14]
Early life and education
[edit]Anil was born on 31 October 1978 in Dhamaura village of Mahottari district to Tej Narayan Singh and Rajakumari Devi Singh. He received his primary education there.[15] After high school, he got his ISC degree in Janakpur before completing MBBS at College of Medical Sciences in Bharatpur, followed by MD in internal medicine from Institute of Medical Sciences (IOM), Maharajgunj, and DM in cardiology from All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi.[2] Additionally he holds fellowships from the American College of Cardiology (FACC) and The Society for Cardiovascular Angiography and Intervention (FSCAI). Career
[edit]Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular and Transplant Centre
[edit]Anil joined the Institute of Medicine (IOM) in 2011 . There he played an important role in establishing and running the DM Cardiology Program. He mentored cardiology residents and supported the academic foundation of the program. Between 2011 and 2015, he also played a key role in establishing and operating the catheterization laboratory (cath lab) services at the Manmohan Cardiothoracic Vascular & Transplant Center (MCVTC), a government hospital in Kathmandu. National Cardiac Centre
[edit]Anil is the founder and chairman of the National Cardiac Centre, established in Kathmandu in 2020 which conducts awareness activities with a primary focus on prevention.[18][19]
Dr. Om Foundation
[edit]He also founded the Dr. Om Foundation, a non-profit organization dedicated to health, education, and social transformation in Nepal. [20] In 2024, it conducted a nationwide anti-smoking campaign, "Smokers are not selfish." [21]In 2025, the foundation awarded scholarships totaling NPR 2 million to 60 underprivileged students across all seven provinces. [22]
Public Health Initiatives

[edit]In 2014, he organized Nepal’s largest free heart camp, offering ECGs, echocardiograms, and blood tests to over 6800 people for early heart disease detection. It was funded by him and his friends; the camp cost 5 million rupees.[3][23]
Largest research on Heart Diseases
[edit]He conducted one of Nepal’s largest studies on cardiovascular risk factors, surveying 5,530 healthy young adults in Kathmandu. The research, published in 2019 in the Journal of Nepal Health Research Council.[24][4]
Training of Health professionals
[edit]He launched the Mission to Save Heart campaign to improve early heart attack care in Nepal by training health workers in ECG interpretation and use of clot-busting drugs. A 2.5 million rupee fund was organized to provide free life-saving medicines to poor patients.[25]
Health Campaign
[edit]In 2024, he launched the Smokers are not selfish campaign to promote quitting smoking by emphasizing its harm to others. The two-week campaign concluded on February 14, coinciding with Valentine’s Day and Vasant Panchami, with over 1,700 people quitting the habit. [26]
Telemedicine Services
[edit]He offers telemedicine services for individuals facing financial or geographical barriers. Through phone and online consultations, patients—especially from remote areas can access essential medical care without needing hospital visits. [20]
Author
[edit]In 2013, he wrote Ma Pani Doctor, "I Am Also a Doctor," a health guide to help the public prevent and manage non-communicable diseases, especially heart ailments. Launched by Nepal’s then-president on World Heart Day, over 5,000 free copies were distributed to those in need, boosting health awareness. [27][28][29] His second book, Jiwanta Sambandha was released in September 2023. [30]

[31][29] [32]For over a decade he has used social media to raise awareness about cardiovascular health and social causes.[28]Creating his posts in response to queries from patients and followers, he offers guidance and motivation for adopting a healthy lifestyle. World Records
[edit]- Guinness World Record for Heart Health Awareness (2023): On September 29, 2023, World Heart Day, he set a Guinness World Record with 11,212 live viewers for a 30-minute Facebook livestream on "Diagnosis of Hypertension," reflecting over a decade of public health work.[34]
- World Book of Records Recognition (2023): In March 2023, he was recognized by the World Book of Records for the "Longest Running Radio Interview" on heart disease prevention, based on 44 weekly sessions on Image FM from 2013 to 2014. [35]
