Passport bro

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Passport bro is a neologism coined to describe Western men who travel abroad[1] for the purpose of dating or marrying women from there.[2] The term became popularized through TikTok,[3] where passport bros create content depicting their lifestyles.[4]

Men deemed passport bros may describe themselves as digital nomads that travel to other countries to enjoy increased purchasing power and have reduced living expenses that make it more affordable to raise a family on a single income.[4] These men may believe that foreign women are more likely to have traditional values,[5] perceive them as rich,[4] and enjoy showing them their local city.[1]

In 2024, Refinery29 published a piece about passport bros in Latin American countries and interviewed women about their experiences, who described passport bros as believing in ethnic stereotypes, objectifying them, and sexually harassing them.[6]

The US Embassy in Colombia warned tourists using dating apps after violent incidents in which men had been drugged with scopolamine and sometimes killed after casual sex.[7]
