Sarandon in 2017

Susan Abigail Sarandon (/səˈrændən/; née Tomalin; born October 4, 1946) is an American actor. With a career spanning over five decades, she is the recipient of various accolades, including an Academy Award and a British Academy Film Award, in addition to nominations for six Primetime Emmy Awards, and nine Golden Globe Awards.

Sarandon made her film debut in Joe (1970) and appeared on the soap operas A World Apart (1970–1971) and Search for Tomorrow (1972). She gained prominence for her role in the musical horror film The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975). After Oscar nominations for Atlantic City (1980), Thelma & Louise (1991), Lorenzo's Oil (1992), and The Client (1994), Sarandon won the Academy Award for Best Actress for playing Helen Prejean in Dead Man Walking (1995).   Kristen Bell is an American actress and producer in film and television. In her career, she received forty-three award nominations and won ten awards. Bell's first award nomination was for a Saturn Award for Best Actress on Television for her performance as the title character in the television series Veronica Mars in 2005. She won her first award at the Gold Derby Awards in the 'Drama Lead Actress' category the same year.
  
  In 2016, Bell won a People's Choice Award for House of Lies. From 2016–2020, she starred in the lead role of Eleanor Shellstrop on the critically acclaimed NBC comedy series The Good Place (2016–2020), winning two more People's Choice Awards and receiving a Golden Globe Award nomination for her role. In 2019, she received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.   Vishwaroopam is a 2013 Indian spy thriller film directed by Kamal Haasan. Besides starring in the lead role with Pooja Kumar, Haasan co-produced the film with S. Chandrahaasan and Prasad V. Potluri, and co-wrote the script with Atul Tiwari. Andrea Jeremiah, Rahul Bose, Shekhar Kapur and Nassar play supporting roles in the film. The film's story revolves around Wisam Ahmed Kashmiri, a spy from India's intelligence agency Research and Analysis Wing, stopping a group of Al-Qaeda terrorists led by Omar (Bose) from triggering a dirty bomb made by scraping caesium from oncological equipment in New York City. A bilingual film, made in Tamil and Hindi (as Vishwaroop), the soundtrack and score were composed by Shankar–Ehsaan–Loy. Sanu Varghese and Mahesh Narayanan were in charge of the film's cinematography and editing respectively. Lalgudi N. Ilaiyaraaja and Boontawee 'Thor' Taweepasas were in charge of art direction while Birju Maharaj handled the choreography.
  
  Vishwaroopam was made on a budget of ₹950 million. The film was released on 25 January 2013 worldwide except Tamil Nadu where it was banned due to protest by Islamic organisations which cited that Muslims were depicted in a negative manner. The ban on the film was lifted and it released on 7 February 2013 after a mutual agreement between Haasan and the organisations; the Hindi version was released on 1 February 2013. Both versions received generally positive reviews and were commercial successes at the box office, collectively grossing ₹2.2 billion overall. (Full article...)

  Khan in 2015

  
  Irrfan Khan (7 January 1967– 29 April 2020) was an Indian actor who worked in Indian and British-American films. His on-screen debut was a minor role in Mira Nair's Salaam Bombay! in 1988. He followed this with appearances in a variety of television shows in the late 1980s to 1990s including playing ʽAbd al-Qadir Badayuni in Bharat Ek Khoj (1988), Makhdoom Mohiuddin in Kahkashan (1991), Vladimir Lenin in Lal Ghas Per Neele Ghodey (1992), a dual role in Chandrakanta (1994), and Valmiki in Jai Hanuman (1997). Khan found his television work unfulfilling and considered quitting acting.
  
  His career experienced a turnaround with his breakthrough role as the lead in Asif Kapadia's The Warrior (2001), which won the BAFTA Award for Outstanding British Film. He followed this with critically acclaimed villainous roles in Haasil and Maqbool (both in 2003). For the former performance, where he played a devious politician, Khan received the Filmfare Award for Best Performance in a Negative Role. In 2006, Khan portrayed a first-generation Bengali immigrant in the Nair-directed film The Namesake with Tabu and a hitman in The Killer. The following year, he won the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actor for his performance as a 38-year-old man waiting to marry the right woman in Life in a... Metro, directed by Anurag Basu. In 2008, he received international recognition for his role as a police inspector in Danny Boyle's Slumdog Millionaire, which won the Academy Award for Best Picture. (Full article...)

  Alia Bhatt is a British actress of Indian descent who predominantly works in Hindi films. As a child, she played a minor role in her father Mahesh Bhatt's production Sangharsh (1999), as the younger version of star Preity Zinta's character. In 2012, Bhatt had her first lead role in Karan Johar's teen film Student of the Year, but her performance in it was not well received. Two years later, she gained praise for playing a kidnapping victim in the drama Highway (2014), winning the Filmfare Critics Award for Best Actress. In the same year, her starring roles in the commercially successful romances 2 States and Humpty Sharma Ki Dulhania, both produced under Johar's studio Dharma Productions, established her as a leading actress. She also sang the single "Samjhawan Unplugged" for the latter film's soundtrack.
  
  In Bhatt's three film releases of 2016—Kapoor & Sons, Dear Zindagi, and Udta Punjab—she played young women in troubling circumstances. Her performance in the last of these won her the Filmfare Award for Best Actress. Following another romantic role in Badrinath Ki Dulhania (2017), she played a spy in the thriller Raazi (2018) and a volatile girlfriend in the musical drama Gully Boy (2019). She won two more Best Actress awards at Filmfare for the latter two. This was followed by two poorly received films, Kalank (2019) and Sadak 2 (2020). Bhatt gained further success in 2022 with a brief role in the Telugu period film RRR, and starring roles in the fantasy film Brahmāstra: Part One – Shiva and biopic Gangubai Kathiawadi, in which she starred as the titular prostitute; all three rank among the highest-grossing Indian films of the year. She won the National Film Award for Best Actress and her fourth Best Actress award at Filmfare for the last of these.   Angel Aquino is a Filipino actress who has received various awards and nominations for her work in film and television. She began her acting career with a supporting role in the action drama Mumbaki (1996). In 1999, she garnered a Gawad Urian Award nomination for Best Supporting Actress for her role in the drama Sana Pag-ibig Na. That same year, she made her first television appearance as a presenter of the lifestyle show F!, for which she received a Star Award for Best Lifestyle Show Host. Aquino won her first Star Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the erotic drama Laro sa Baga (2000). In 2006, she played a cancer-stricken woman in Adolfo Alix Jr.'s drama Donsol, a role that earned her a Best Actress award from the Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival.
  
  In 2007, she starred in Brillante Mendoza's family drama Summer Heat and was nominated for Best Supporting Actress at the Gawad Urian. That year, she began presenting the magazine lifestyle show Us Girls, which aired for six years. For her work, she received nominations for Best Lifestyle Show Host at the Star Awards ceremonies from 2007 to 2010. Aquino featured as a prominent fashion designer and main antagonist in the revenge drama series Magkaribal (2010), for which she received nominations for the Asian Television Award for Best Supporting Actress and the Star Award for Best Actress in a Drama Series. Aquino was cast in the role of a transgender woman in the independent drama Porno and starred in the coming-of-age drama Ang Huling Cha-Cha ni Anita. Both films earned her nominations for Best Supporting Actress at the 2014 Gawad Urian Awards, with a win for her performance in the latter.   The Kerala State Film Award for Best Actress is an award presented annually at the Kerala State Film Awards of India since 1969 to an actress for the best performance within the Malayalam film industry. Until 1997, the awards were managed directly by the Department of Cultural Affairs, Government of Kerala. Since 1998, the Kerala State Chalachitra Academy, an autonomous non-profit organisation functioning under the Department of Cultural Affairs, has been exercising control over the awards. The awardees, decided by a jury formed by the academy, are declared by the Minister for Cultural Affairs and are presented by the Chief Minister.
  
  The 1st Kerala State Film Awards ceremony was held in 1970 with Sheela receiving the Best Actress award for her role in Kallichellamma (1969). The following year, Sharada was recognised for her performances in two films—Thriveni and Thara. Since then, several actresses have been awarded for more than one film during a year.   An Education is a 2009 coming-of-age drama film directed by Lone Scherfig and written by Nick Hornby. It is based on the memoirs of the same name by British journalist Lynn Barber. The film premiered on 18 January 2009 at the Sundance Film Festival and screened at the Toronto International Film Festival on 10 September 2009. The film then showed at the Mill Valley Film Festival before being released in the United Kingdom by Sony Pictures Classics on 30 October 2009, and going into wide release in the United States on 5 February 2010. An Education earned over $26 million in its combined total gross at the box office.
  
  The film garnered various awards and nominations, ranging from recognition of the film itself to Hornby's screenplay and the cast's acting performances, particularly those of Carey Mulligan and Alfred Molina. The film received three Academy Award nominations, but failed to win any. At the 63rd British Academy Film Awards An Education came away with one award from nine nominations. Mulligan was named Best Actress at the British Independent Film Awards, where the film was nominated for a further six awards.   The Hours is a 2002 drama film directed by Stephen Daldry and written by David Hare. The screenplay is based on the novel of the same name by Michael Cunningham, which follows three generations of women whose lives are affected by the novel Mrs Dalloway: Virginia Woolf (Nicole Kidman), as she writes the novel in 1923, a suicidal 1950s housewife (Julianne Moore), and a modern-day woman (Meryl Streep) preparing a party for her poet friend, Richard (Ed Harris). The film premiered on December 25, 2002, followed by a limited theatrical release on December 27, and then went on a wide release in North America on January 14, 2003. The Hours grossed a worldwide box office total of over $108 million, against an estimated budget of $25 million.
  
  The Hours garnered various awards and nominations following its release, with nominations ranging from recognition of the film itself to Hare's screenplay, Philip Glass' score and the cast's acting performances, particularly those of Kidman, Moore and Streep. The film received nine nominations at the 75th Academy Awards; Kidman won the Best Actress award at the ceremony. At the 56th British Academy Film Awards, The Hours won two awards from eleven nominations.   David Lynch (January 20, 1946 – January 15, 2025) was an American filmmaker, painter, television director, visual artist, musician, and occasional actor. Known for his surrealist films, he developed his own unique cinematic style, known as "Lynchian"; this style is characterized by its dream imagery and meticulous sound design. The surreal and, in many cases, violent elements to his films have been said to "disturb, offend or mystify" their audiences.
  
  Over the course of Lynch's career, he collaborated with several individuals on multiple occasions; his films frequently feature recurring cast members and principal production roles are often filled by a small pool of collaborators. The most prolific of Lynch's frequently used actors was Jack Nance, who first worked with Lynch on 1977's Eraserhead, and would appear in many more of Lynch's productions until Nance's death in 1996. Several individuals with whom Lynch would work on multiple occasions are fellow alumni of the AFI Conservatory, including sound designer Alan Splet, cinematographer Frederick Elmes and actor Catherine E.
