Radhika Shakya

Radhika Shakya is a Nepali economist, social worker, and author. She is also the wife of the current Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and has been involved in economic policy, women's empowerment, and financial literacy initiatives.[1][2]

Education

She completed her School Leaving Certificate (SLC) in 1978 from Adarsha Kanya Niketan School . She later studied at Patan Multiple Campus, where she became involved in student politics and was influenced by communist ideology.[3]

Political involvement

Radhika became interested in Nepal's communist movement after learning about Mao Tse-tung from a Chinese customer at her parents shop.[4] In 1987, she met KP Sharma Oli, who had just been released from prison after 14 years.[5]

Professional career

In 1980, Radhika started working at Nepal Rastra Bank as a temporary staff member. She eventually secured a permanent position until her retirement in 2011.[6]

Role as First Lady

When KP Sharma Oli became Prime Minister in 2015 and again in 2018, Radhika took on the role of Nepal's First Lady.[7] She also cared for her husband, particularly due to his health issues.

Radhika Shakya has written two books:

  • Mera Anubhuti – About the struggles and hardships faced by KP Sharma Oli in his political career.[8]
  • Karuna – Her autobiography.[9]
