Rains Over Babel (Spanish: Llueve sobre Babel) is a comedy-drama film, directed by Gala del Sol and released in 2025.[1] Inspired by Dante's Inferno, the film centres on Babel, a nightclub in Cali, Colombia, which is a liminal purgatory between life and death.[2]
The film is a coproduction of Colombia, Spain and the United States.
Cast
[edit]The film stars Santiago Pineda as Boticario, a bartender at the club; Celina Biurrun as Uma, a mute bodyguard who is Boticario's wife; Roman Escobar as drag artist Roma; Johan Zapata as Monet, a drug dealer and Roma's roommate; and Saray Rebolledo as La Flaca, a mysterious woman who is the angel of death that patrons must bargain for their lives with.[1]
Supporting cast members include Jhon Bayron Quintero Valencia as Darla Experiment, another drag performer; Jhan Narvaez as Don Alfonso, a minister who preaches against the perceived debauchery in the club; William Hurtado as Jacob, Don Alfonso's son who is suffering from stigmata; Felipe Aguilar Rodriguez as Dante, La Flaca's assistant grim reaper; John Alex Castillo as Gian Salai, the club owner; Jose Mojica as Gian's son Timbi; Jacobo Velez as El Callegueso, a singer booked to perform at the club; and Jennifer Martinez Mora as La Pitonisa, a gypsy whom Gian and Timbi enlist to help find El Callegueso when he fails to show up for his performance.[1]
