Sigilkore is a predominantly internet-based subgenre of Trap and Cloud Rap originating in the late 2010s on Soundcloud. It is characterized by extremely complicated DJ mixing and digital stereo effects, often layered in-post over recorded vocals.
Origins
[edit]Sigilkore originated on the music sharing app Soundcloud during the late 2010s. SpaceGhostPurrp, along with producers within his collective BMB Deathrow, layed the groundwork for what would later become Sigilkore around 2018 with a SpaceGhostPurrp DJ mix called Ashview Heights Legend. [2] Ashview Heights Legend consists of previously released SpaceGhostPurrp singles sped up, chopped in a similar technique to Chopped and Screwed music, and occasionally layered with Flanger and tape stop effects.
Luci4, a member of BMB Deathrow, would expand upon this style by frequently including references to Occultism within his cover art and lyrics. Luci4 is also credited with coining the term for Sigilkore around 2019.[3]
Sigilkore as a genre exploded in popularity in summer 2021 when Luci4's songs all eyez on m3 and kurxxed emeraldz blew up on TikTok.[4]
