Sylvester Stewart (March 15, 1943 – June 9, 2025), better known by his stage name Sly Stone, was an American musician, songwriter, and record producer. He was most famous for his role as frontman for Sly and the Family Stone. He was also known as an important person in the creation of funk with his fusion of soul, rock, psychedelia and gospel in the 1960s and 1970s.[3][4]

Stone died at his home in Los Angeles, California on June 9, 2025 from chronic obstructive pulmonary disease at the age of 82.[5]
