Solar Panel Funding is a UK-based renewable energy company that provides fully funded solar panel installations through a privately funded grant scheme.
Background
[edit]Solar Panel Funding was established by Gareth Watts, Damien Pearl, and David Applegate in 2018 in Norwich, UK, to provide renewable energy solutions to financially disadvantaged homeowners.[1] Its self-funded grant model serves as an alternative to government-backed schemes.[2]
The company funds installations through referral fees from non-qualifying customers and also provides home energy assessments and suitability surveys. The company partners with MCS-certified installers and has collaborated with former Olympic athlete Sally Gunnell as a brand ambassador to promote renewable energy accessibility.[3]
In 2024, the company rebranded itself, clarifying SPF's focus on mitigating fuel poverty while emphasizing the private grant concept.[4][5]
Grant scheme and eligibility
[edit]Solar Panel Funding operates a structured grant scheme to support eligible homeowners. To qualify, applicants must meet specific criteria, including being a single-parent household with a child under 18 with a registered illness or disability. The household must have an annual income below £10,000 and own the property where the solar panels will be installed. Eligible applicants must be employed, self-employed, retired (state pension age), or full-time carers. Additionally, energy costs must exceed 10% of the household's annual income, and the applicant must not have previously received a grant from Solar Panel Funding Ltd. The property must also comply with solar panel installation regulations.
The grant is distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, subject to funding availability. Homeowners who do not qualify for a free installation are offered alternative financing options.
