Shane Boose (born July 5, 2005), professionally known as Sombr, is an American singer, songwriter and producer.[1] He released his debut single, "Nothing Left to Say", in 2021, and his first extended play (EP), In Another Life, in 2023, co-produced by Tony Berg, through Warner Records and Sombr's own imprint SMB.[2][3]

In 2025, "Back to Friends" and "Undressed" gained virality on the video-sharing app TikTok and became Sombr's breakout hits, leading to his first appearances on multiple charts across the world, including the Billboard Hot 100.[4][5]

Early life

[edit]

Boose was born on July 5, 2005 in New York City, and raised on the Lower East Side. He attended LaGuardia High School as a vocal major but dropped out during his junior year after releasing the song "Caroline" in June 2022.[6][7] He is currently based in Los Angeles, California.[8][9]

Career

[edit]

He began his music career with the release of his debut single, "Nothing Left to Say", in October 2021.[10] In September 2023, he released his debut EP, In Another Life,[11] which was co-produced by Tony Berg.[2][3]

In March 2025, "Back to Friends" and "Undressed" gained popularity after going viral on the video-sharing app TikTok,[4] resulting in increased on-demand streams and chart appearances in multiple countries. In the United States, the songs peaked at numbers 45 and 37, respectively, on the Billboard Hot 100.[5] Both songs also entered the Billboard Global 200 and have peaked within the top 25.[12] Additionally, "Undressed" reached number one in Ireland, and reached the top five in Australia, New Zealand and the United Kingdom.[13][14][15]

On March 28, 2025, Sombr exceeded 10 million active monthly listeners on Spotify. Less than a month later, on April 21, the number rose to over 20 million.[16] "Back to Friends" became his first song to reach 100 million streams on the platform, achieving the milestone on April 19, 2025.[17] Three days later, his 2023 single "Would've Been You" also surpassed 100 million streams.[18] On May 13, 2025, "Undressed" became his third song to reach the same milestone.[19]

Sombr has announced his first solo tour, which will span North America, Europe, Australia, and New Zealand.[20][21] The tour is scheduled to begin on May 25 in Dublin, covering the North America and Europe legs, and conclude on October 28 in Los Angeles.[20] It will then continue with the Australia and New Zealand legs, starting on December 2 in Auckland and ending on December 14 in Gold Coast.[21]

In May 2025, Billboard included Sombr in its annual 21 Under 21 list.[22] On May 20, 2025, he made his television performance debut on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, performing "Back to Friends".[23]
