Revision as of 17:56, 9 August 2022
If you are unable to complete a move for technical reasons, you can request technical help below. This is the correct method if you tried to move a page, but you got an error message saying something like "You do not have permission to move this page, for the following reasons:..." or "The/This page could not be moved, for the following reason:..."
- Please make sure you really need technical assistance before making a request here. In particular, if the target page is a redirect back to the source page that has only one revision, you can usually move the page normally.
- To list a technical request: Uncontroversial technical requests subsection and insert the following code at the bottom of the list, filling in pages and reason:
This will automatically insert a bullet and include your signature. Please do not edit the article's talk page.
{{subst:RMassist|current page title|new title|reason=edit summary for the move}}
the - If you object to a proposal listed in the uncontroversial technical requests section, please move the request to the Contested technical requests section, append a note on the request elaborating on why, and sign with ~~~~. Consider pinging the requester to let them know about the objection.
- If your technical request is contested, or if a contested request is left untouched without reply, create a requested move on the article talk and remove the request from the section here. The fastest and easiest way is to click the "discuss" button at the request, save the talk page, and remove the entry on this page.
Technical requests
Uncontroversial technical requests
- Lewes Pound (currently a redirect to Lewes pound) → Lewes pound (move · discuss) – Wikipedia's style guide warns against capitalising the names or denominations of currencies. TheCurrencyGuy (talk) 13:54, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- Bristol Pound (currently a redirect to Bristol pound) → Bristol pound (move · discuss) – Wikipedia's style guide warns against capitalising the names or denominations of currencies. TheCurrencyGuy (talk) 13:54, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- Operation Summer Rains (currently a redirect to 2006 Gaza–Israel conflict) → 2006 Israel–Gaza conflict (currently a redirect instead to 2006 Gaza–Israel conflict) (move · discuss) – This pages should have been moved back in 2019 based on the consensus reached in this discussion: Talk:2006_Israeli_operation_in_Beit_Hanoun#Amended_proposal_2.0, but the move was never enacted, possibly due to the page protections. Iskandar323 (talk) 11:54, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- That discussion was quite a while back and there's a P.S. note since. pinging @BarrelProof. – robertsky (talk) 17:41, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- Kenny Pickett (American football) (currently a redirect to Kenny Pickett) → Kenny Pickett (move · discuss) – The current base page for "Kenny Pickett" is a disambiguation page with one other link, a musician by that name who played for a band called "The Creation". This link is not a name page, but instead a redirect to the page for the band. In terms of page views, the football player regularly generates 8-10x the views of the band page (and again, not even a page for the member), and generates almost all of the quick hits when the name "Kenny Pickett" is searched on Google. The football player should have the base name page, with the disambiguation page either being deleted or being titled "Kenny Pickett (disambiguation)". Debartolo2917 (talk) 23:47, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (currently a redirect to Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences) → Texas A&M School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences (currently a redirect instead to Texas A&M University School of Veterinary Medicine & Biomedical Sciences) (move · discuss) – official name change Tamuvetmed (talk) 21:26, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Tamuvetmed any sources for the name change? – robertsky (talk) 04:38, 9 August 2022 (UTC)
- Manikku Wadumestri Hendrick de Silva (currently a redirect to M. W. H. de Silva) → M. W. H. de Silva (move · discuss) – Better known as such LionCountry25 (talk) 12:44, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- North Carolina Highway 417 (currently a redirect to Hampstead Bypass (North Carolina)) → Hampstead Bypass (North Carolina) (move · discuss) – Rough consensus reached, Hampstead Bypass is the working name for the project and NC 417 might not be the official route number for the route when completed. - Old City (Jerusalem) (currently a redirect to Old City of Jerusalem) → Old City of Jerusalem (move · discuss) – RM has consensus to move, but the page seems to be move-protected. — Ceso femmuin mbolgaig mbung, mellohi! (投稿) 23:07, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- Template:Google → Template:Google search (move · discuss) – for further clarification. PK2 (talk) 06:41, 6 August 2022 (UTC)
- Not necessarily opposed to this, but what exactly would this clarify? SkyWarrior 14:42, 7 August 2022 (UTC)
- I suppose it would clarify that the template is for a Google web search (see Google Search), rather than for some other purpose related to Google, which is a company whose activities are not limited to web searching. To me that seems reasonable. — BarrelProof (talk) 16:41, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- That's exactly right. I agree with the user above me. -- PK2 (talk) 08:03, 9 August 2022 (UTC)

Contested technical requests
- FIFA 23 → EA Sports FIFA 23 (currently a redirect back to FIFA 23) (move) – I think when you visit the website for EA Sports https://www.ea.com/games/fifa/fifa-23 it clearly states that EA Sport FIFA just to add on the fact that the two parties both FIFA and EA Sports are going separate ways the name will save a benchmark or bridge for that change cause future FIFAs will constitute and EA Sports will also make its own called EA Sports FC. PK YellowWisdom (talk) 10:21, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose - this looks like WP:CRYSTAL to me. If another game under a different umbrella is later written, then so be it. But until now this is WP:PRECISE enough and more WP:CONCISE than the proposal. — Amakuru (talk) 11:25, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- Nepal Socialist Party → Socialist Party of Nepal (currently a redirect back to Nepal Socialist Party) (move · discuss) – नेपाल समाजवादी पार्टी remains the devnagri name of the party. This converted in English is both Nepal Socialist Party and Socialist Party of Nepal. The party has on the other hand announced the name to be Socialist Party of Nepal. Even official Twitter and Facebook handle of Dr. Baburam Bhattarai depicts the same which have millions of fan following. So the page needs to be moved. 120.89.104.44 (talk) 14:42, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- Oppose The majority of sources in the article call the party the "Nepal Socialist Party" >> Lil-unique1 (talk) — 14:46, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- Lorraine cycle → Lorraine Cycle (currently a redirect back to Lorraine cycle) (move · discuss) – Should probably follow the same naming customs as the Crusade Cycle, as per https://www.oxfordreference.com/view/10.1093/oi/authority.20110803095651205 Saksapoiss (talk) 17:22, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
- The Ngrams suggest that the uncapitalized version is more common, so I don't think that it's "consistently capitalized in a substantial majority of independent, reliable sources" (unlike Crusade Cycle, which sources generally do capitalize). Extraordinary Writ (talk) 20:35, 8 August 2022 (UTC)
Requests to revert undiscussed moves
- Happy Together (South Korean TV series) → Happy Together (1999 TV series) (currently a redirect back to Happy Together (South Korean TV series)) (move · discuss) – Happy Together (2022 TV series) is the upcoming daily drama which will be aired on KBS 1TV, replacing Bravo, My Life.
