Stellar stream

From Simple English Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Recent stellar streams are being studied by the Southern Stellar Stream Spectropic Survey using the Anglo-Australian Telescope (2022)

A stellar stream is a group of stars orbiting a galaxy. Stellar streams can used to be a globular cluster or a dwarf galaxy that has now been ripped apart by the tidal force.

The Milky Way does have stellar streams. It's largest stellar stream is the Magellanic Stream with Sagittarius Stream at 1 million light-years in length. Other galaxies do have stellar streams as well. Like the NGC 5128 galaxy, It's stellar stream is called "Young Blue Tidal Stream". Its origins is likeley a gas fragment or a dwarf galaxy collided with NGC 5128.
