What source substantiates that a mortar attack on Halane on 28 April 2025 "..killed three Americans and wounded six, while critically wounding seven Italians"?

Rename to 2025 Shabelle offensive?

[edit]

According to multiple sources cited, this isn't really just attacks but a whole offensive in the Shabelle region of Somalia. RowanJ LP (talk) 16:43, 1 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

The offensive not only Middle Shabelle there is also Hiiraan so could agree Hirshabelle attacks or Hirshabelle offensives QalasQalas (talk) 18:03, 13 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Doesn't it also extend to the Galmudug and Southwest State of Somalia too? RowanJ LP (talk) 13:35, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
Yes, From central to southern Somalia, this could be huge ongoing but lack of international media coverage. QalasQalas (talk) 23:31, 17 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

Scope?

[edit]

Should this article be including Al-Shabaab attacks in Bay and Gedo regions as well as the recent attacks near the Somali-Kenyan border? They seem isolated when compared to the ongoing fighting in Middle Shabelle, and have been a regular occurrence. Think it might be out of scope. @RowanJ LP 𐒈𐒚𐒐𐒆𐒛𐒒 Gebagebo (talk) 08:10, 25 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]

If they become more reoccurring then they should be added, but if it's one-two time things then they should be added. RowanJ LP (talk) 08:12, 25 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
I think they should be separated. Conventional warfare is currently only ongoing in the Hirshabelle/Lower Shabelle area with occasional attacks in Mogadishu and its suburbs. 𐒈𐒚𐒐𐒆𐒛𐒒 Gebagebo (talk) 05:03, 26 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
@RowanJ LP Per a statement from Al-Shabaab's military leadership: "The Mujahideen Military Command commends the operations carried out by the heroes of tawhid in the states of Hiraan, Middle Shabelle, and Lower Shabelle, during which many cities and regions that had been under enemy control were liberated and returned to the rule of Islamic Sharia" (see here for the statement). Al-Shabaab itself confirms the current offensive only covers those three regions, something that should be reflected in the article. 𐒈𐒚𐒐𐒆𐒛𐒒 Gebagebo (talk) 05:51, 29 March 2025 (UTC)[reply]
The offensives have expanded, they're in the Bay Region, Banaadir, and Bakool. This is definitely more than just Shabelle. RowanJ LP (talk) 01:49, 21 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
