[edit]It is a chewing louse...
- many species of lice. Might be best to say that the group contains chewing lice which feed on feathers, etc.- Fixed -- SE
- Lead is currently all about body shape, except for first sentence. Lead needs to summarize each part of the article, i.e. there should be at least one sentence for each section of the article.
- Expanded it a good bit, ~1 sentence per paragraph. -- SE
- Cladogram would benefit greatly from a bit of annotation. You could use |sublabel1="on mammals", for instance, to annotate Trichodectera; and you could give English names for the leaf nodes (Philopteridae, etc) on the tree.
- Cladogram would benefit from small images of each of the leaf node groups.
pulvinus-like mandibles
- which means?- Clarified -- SE
majority of species identified reside in Europe, North America and the Neotropical realm ... agricultural regions
- is this an artefact, you can see them where they've been studied most (on farms), or likely the real distribution?- Actually not too sure, taking out for now. -- SE
Ischnocera contains an endosymbiotic bacteria
- again, Ischnocera is a group of many species; and bacteria is a plural form. Maybe "Members of the Ischnocera contain endosymbiotic bacteria", or if it's exactly one bacterial species "an endosymbiotic bacterium".- Fixed -- SE
- I've made a couple of very small fixes in the article.
Spraying the infested with pesticides allows the lice to be killed by drying out their bodies
= the infested what? - killed by pesticides or by drying? Something wrong here.- Clarified -- SE
Images
[edit]- Both images are properly licensed on Commons.
- The lead image seems a bit fuzzy and low-res to be at the head of the article, especially compared to the nice sharp ABCD set below. Anything better available?
- I'd say File:Louse (265 05) Columbicola columbae (Mallophaga).jpg might be the best alternative, swapped it out. -- SE
- The ABCD image set should say A,B are male and female of the first species, C,D ditto for the second species. You probably should add that they're from the blackcap and the blackbird respectively.
- Specified A,B,C,D, and the birds, hopefully not too cluttered with how I did it. -- SE
