The part -slav has always meant "famous for something" (equivalent of the related Greek -kles), so it can't be "famous for spring". Moreover jar(o) = "spring" is only in Czech and Slovak (while Jaroslav is panslavic), in the rest of slavic languages the word for spring is "vesna, wiosna" or "prolet, proletje". So it is more likely that the name actually means "famous for being furious, fierce", compare Bulgarian jarost "fury", Russian jary "furious", slovenian jaren "energic, strong, fierce" etc. 77.40.70.125 (talk) 16:28, 8 April 2012 (UTC)
