Capitalization

@TurboSuperA+: "Left Bank Ukraine" might be a proper name, but it doesn't make a lot of sense to capitalize the hyphenated form, nor to treat Left-Bank alone as a proper name. See book n-gram stats (trimmed to 21st century, since there are 3 or 4 books in the 90s with lots of instances of the over-capped version). Since it's not "consistently capitalized" per MOS:CAPS, why cap it in this title? Dicklyon (talk) 18:42, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I reverted the undiscussed move. The title is "Uprising on left bank", not Left-bank Ukraine uprising. In any case, the capitalization must be consistent. Please discuss it in Talk:Left-bank Ukraine first. --Altenmann >talk 21:45, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

By the way , it appears only Wikipedia uses the term "Left-bank uprising", the same with the title used in ruwiki, Левобережное восстание . So I would suggest to look for a better title. --Altenmann >talk 21:56, 9 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

There is plenty Rebellion's and rebellion's, Uprising's and uprising's, Revolt's and revolt's in the tree of category:Rebellion. I don't think it is worth your time to spend on decapitation of these, but, as I noticed now in WP:ANI, you say you are doing this for 15 years now. P.S. I did jump in one discussion of this type once, but quickly jumped out once I realize that there is a good deal of confusion and disagreement on what constitutes a proper name in English, so I quickly jumped out. There is lots of it in Wikipedia. For example, in Belarus topics it is Minsk region, but in ru and in uk it is Moscow Oblast Kyiv Oblast. and why in Ukraine it is Khmelnytsky Uprising, but Ostryanyn uprising... <sigh> --Altenmann >talk 00:03, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I am OK with both Left-bank or Left-Bank, for the article title and in prose. It should always be capitalised because it is a place name, like Toronto or Zimbabwe. In this edit it was lowercased in prose to "left-bank", which is grammatically incorrect. TurboSuperA+_(connect) 14:15, 10 June 2025 (UTC)[reply]

I think it is a place name (assuming good faith on the part of editors who wrote the articles): The Left-bank Ukraine[a] is a historic name of the part of Ukraine on the left (east) bank of the Dnieper River and The Right-bank Ukraine[a] is a historical and territorial name for a part of modern Ukraine on the right (west) bank of the Dnieper River. Yes, of course they wrote that in good faith. But maybe it's a funny interpretation or translation of what the region was historically called. If we look to older books, it doesn't go very far back, and is often lowercase. See books and you see a lot of "Ukraine of the left bank" and such, too.
