Musqueamview Street → Šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm Street – Musqueamview Street is not the name, it is a semi-official translation used only for systems which require it. Media refers to it more often in its official Halkomelem name. Coleisforeditor (talk) 20:17, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- Additionally, I would like to mention that the Americanist phonetic notation, the alphabet used, is a Latin script, and given the non-anglicanised/translated form "šxʷməθkʷəy̓əmasəm" is used more often, the move would align with policy. Coleisforeditor (talk) 21:02, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- How would you expect to have people search this article up without standard Latin letters? We are on English Wikipedia after all. GarethBaloney 21:32, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- WP:REDIRECT.
- The policy I mention lists examples of non-English alphabet letters being used. Coleisforeditor (talk) 05:36, 20 June 2025 (UTC)

- Per WP:ENGLISHTITLE, "Names not originally in a Latin alphabet, such as Greek, Chinese, or Russian names, must be romanized". So your suggestion is a non-starter I'm afraid — Martin (MSGJ · talk) 21:27, 19 June 2025 (UTC)
- This is a Latin alphabet, see other parts of the discussion. Latin script ≠ English alphabet but English alphabet = Latin script. Coleisforeditor (talk) 05:37, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
- Comment The nom states that "media refers to it more often in its official Halkomelem name." Given that this name change happened literally three days ago, this is a dubious assertion. 162 etc. (talk) 00:41, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
- Comment I'm not even sure this deserves an article. See WP:NOTNEWS. 162 etc. (talk) 00:45, 20 June 2025 (UTC)
- I agree with that. It's not even like it's a major arterial, it's just a residential street.
- Also in my opinion, it didn't really make sense to 1) rename a minor street instead of a major street and 2) not change it to the name of a historically notable indigenous person. Cganuelas (talk) 12:08, 21 June 2025 (UTC)
- Are you saying you don't personally agree with the name change? The job of Wikipedia is to state what is, not what the editors personally want it to be (WP:IDONTLIKEIT). Coleisforeditor (talk) 14:09, 21 June 2025 (UTC)
- I don't see how WP:NOTNEWS applies here – it largely applies to original reporting and content more fit for Wikinews. The content fits the WP:GNG despite the maintenance template (editor vaguely explained with "City streets typically do not meet GNG"). Additionally, some arguments in WP:FUNPOLICE apply here. Coleisforeditor (talk) 14:17, 21 June 2025 (UTC)
- Note that per WP:NOTNEWS, "most newsworthy events do not qualify for inclusion". The street itself does not appear to be notable - the only thing that sources are reporting on is the news about its renaming. There's no reason why this can't be covered in a sentence or two at Kitsilano or Vancouver. 162 etc. (talk) 18:07, 21 June 2025 (UTC)
- That guidance, and NOTNEWS in general, is largely for events.Properties/events are what make something notable, in this case its name. The article is not about the event of it being renamed, the article is about something that is made notable by that event. Coleisforeditor (talk) 18:45, 21 June 2025 (UTC)

Article meets WP:GNG ― maintenance template should be removed. (User:SounderBruce, notifying you per WP:WTRMT)
A topic is presumed to be suitable for a stand-alone article or list when it has received significant coverage in reliable sources that are independent of the subject.
- "Significant coverage" – See references in article or search on Google
- "Reliable" – Sources used are reputable, large scale and reliable. Official city materials can be assumed to be correct for where it is used
- "Sources" – Multiple sources independent of each other and the city are used
- "Independent of the subject" – City materials are used only two times to back up claims or for mundane claims such as road length or dates, elsewhere independent sources are used.
