Penobscot peoplePenobscot – target is disambig created by BKonrad on May 20, 2004 as "Penobscot (disambiguation)", moved to "Penobscot" by Kwami on June 8 2010 contrary to WP:UNDAB Skookum1 (talk) 04:04, 20 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

  • Oppose until the issue is addressed properly. These should be discussed at a centralized location.
There was a discussion once on whether the ethnicity should have precedence for the name, and it was decided it shouldn't. That could be revisited. But it really should be one discussion on the principle, not thousands of separate discussions at every ethnicity in the world over whether it should be at "X", "Xs", or "X people". — kwami (talk) 12:48, 20 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This entire article is biased and, frankly, should be completely rewritten.

[edit]

I could take up pages illustrating all examples of this and explaining how they are biased, so instead, see for yourself the first and most laughable example:

"It has been argued that the people are genetically vulnerable to alcoholism, a racist sentiment with no evidence which Europeans frequently tried to exploit in dealings and trade."

"Europeans may have slowly developed enzymes, metabolic processes, and social mechanisms for dealing with a normalized high intake of alcohol, but Penobscot people, though familiar with alcohol, had never had access to the gross quantity of alcohol that Europeans offered."

Logically, these two claims cannot simultaneously be true. I am not going to bother trying to dispute the ridiculous claim here, on account that I honest to God have better things to do. I suspect that the author knew exactly what they were doing. The entire article is filled with this kind of self-contradicting and unsubstantiated nonsense. This is what some refer to as "race baiting" and I implore all Wikipedia users to 1) not do this, 2) call it out when it happens and 3) try to remove it wherever it shows up. It is a subtle method of trolling that aims to cause racially-motivated flamewarring from the act of calling it out.

So instead of being responsible for starting the toxic discourse that will inevitably start if I remove just one of these, I am going to remove both of them for being mutually-exclusive claims, and leave it to someone else to fill in the gap. My apologies to that person, I would do it myself but I simply do not have the time for it. 2603:7080:413C:D240:80C6:6FAD:D1B6:C2D0 (talk) 04:09, 18 April 2025 (UTC)[reply]
