"The word "execution" does not necessarily mean the death penalty; it refers to the imposition of whatever judgment is being stayed." Is it necessary to clarify the meaning of "execution" here? I can't help but feel that it's redundant. The preceding sentence - "A stay of execution is a court order to temporarily suspend the execution of a court judgment or other court order" -- defines the term clearly enough.
Although stays are - as the second section of the article states - "often sought to defer execution of the convicted person", I don't think there's enough room for confusion to warrant an explanation. I would assume most people reading this article are at least intuitively aware that the term "execution" does not solely refer to the act of putting someone to death, but also the performance of any action.
