Introduction
[edit]Trollface Edits are a type of Sigma edits that evolved from the broader genre of Sigma memes. In these new Sigma videos, the Trollface is in the video either as a visual effect within the scene or placed directly over a character's face to enhance the "cool" or dominant aesthetic associated with Sigma edits.[1]
History
[edit]Trollface Edits first emerged in 2022, evolving from the creepy Trollge meme.[2][3] Throughout 2022 and 2023, Trollface Edits followed a particular style: the Trollface would appear at the bottom of a video, staying static until a significant or “cool” moment occurred. At that point, the Trollface would animate into a creepy or confident grin, accompanied by Phonk music in the background. This era of Trollface Edits remained popular into early 2024.[3][4][5] However, in early 2024, a new type of Trollface Edit emerged, distinct from the earlier versions. Instead of simply placing Trollface at the bottom of the video, creators began incorporating the Trollface into the video itself, either overlaying it onto a person’s face after a cool moment happens or integrating it into the action. This version of Trollface Edits became closely associated with Brazilian funk music.[6][7] By mid to late 2024, the trend shifted again. Instead of using Trollface, many creators began replacing it with Skull faces, marking yet another evolution in the meme’s format.[8][9]

[edit]Over the years, Trollface edits have maintained their relevance in internet humor. Sigma edits featuring Troll Faces continue to circulate widely across platforms like TikTok[10][11][12][13], and YouTube Shorts.
