Article Evaluation

[edit]
  • Is everything in the article relevant to the article topic? Is there anything that distracted you?
    • Everything seems relevant to the topic of gun violence on this page. Nothing in particular seemed to stand out in a way that was distracting.
  • Is any information out of date? Is anything missing that could be added?
    • There is some information that is not current, but I think that is necessary because we need to be able to compare past numbers and stats with previous offenses. I like that there are similar countries compared, but I'd like to see a more global perspective.
  • What else could be improved?
    • Something that can be improved is the inclusiveness of other countries that struggle with gun violence. For instance, Africa.
  • Is the article neutral? Are there any claims that appear heavily biased toward a particular position?
    • Everything seems neutral for the most part. It even includes stats from countries like Sweden, which I was not aware that had gun violence issues.
  • Are there viewpoints that are over represented, or underrepresented?
    • Like I mentioned before, there is a large group of people I feel like are being underrepresented. Southern America, Africa, and Asia are not well represented in this article but I think its relevant to the discussion to bring these countries up.
  • Check a few citations. Do the links work? Does the source support the claims in the article?
    • For the citations I clicked on, they worked fine and took me to pages that were important to the subject.
  • Is each fact referenced with an appropriate, reliable reference? Where does the information come from? Are these neutral sources? If biased, is that bias noted?
    • As far as I can tell, each fact is backed up with a reliable reference. And these sources seem to be educational and reliable. Many of them are scholarly articles or written by unbiased sources.
  • What kinds of conversations, if any, are going on behind the scenes about how to represent this topic?
    • A very important point that was stated is that there is a sense of mental illness being the underlying factor in gun related deaths. Being that the person and not the gun is responsible for the killing.
  • How is the article rated? Is it a part of any WikiProjects?
    • This article is rated C class, mid importance. It is part of wikiprojects including: sociology, gun politics, and firearms.
