Reuse Beer and Wine Bottles Does anyway in this area have a glass studio set up to make drinking glasses from used beer and wine bottles? If we knew of a place we could be giving them any glass we have that works especially well for that.

Reusing glass for kitchen counter-tops Is anyone doing this in this area? Could anyone write a grant request for the equipment?

The Recycling Foundation has small grants under 5,000 for recycling and reuse projects in Washington State. [1]

Some Facts

In 2008, about 42,600 tons of glass was collected for recycling by the city of Spokane. [2]

History of recycling glass in Spokane: Glass collected at the curb was trucked to Calgary, Alberta, and then Edmonton, where it was turned into fiberglass. When that market dried up, Spokane's glass was shipped to Portland, where a recycling company prepared it for a train trip to California to turn it into wine bottles. Currently Spokane recycles glass for road construction.
